SIT Names Lecture Theatre and Collaboration Loop after Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan in Honour of $1.8 Million Endowed Gift
SIT has named a lecture theatre in its SIT@Dover campus the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Lecture Theatre, and will name the Collaboration Loop in SIT's new campus Punggol the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Collaboration Loop.
As part of its efforts to nurture talents and promote education, the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (SHHK) has contributed an endowed gift of $1.8 million through its charitable arm, The Hokkien Foundation, to Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), Singapore’s University of Applied Learning, in support of the construction of SIT’s centralised campus in Punggol. The endowed gift was presented to SIT at SHHK’s 180th anniversary celebration today, in the presence of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

As an acknowledgement to the contributions, SIT has named a lecture theatre in its SIT@Dover campus the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Lecture Theatre. In addition, a Collaboration Loop, which connects academic blocks and hubs of activity within SIT’s new campus in Punggol, will be named the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Collaboration Loop.

Currently under construction, SIT’s centralised campus in Punggol, located within the Punggol Digital District (PDD), will be integrated with industry and the community to build a vibrant applied learning environment that maximises opportunities for mutual collaboration. Companies can tap on SIT’s applied learning and research capabilities to work on projects, and students can find real-world learning opportunities in industry spaces located within PDD. The campus will also house the region’s first Multi-Energy Micro-Grid and ‘living lab’, where students and the industry can test-bed and implement innovations.
Integration of Education and Enterprise via Collaboration Loop
Reinforcing the integration of education and enterprise, the Collaboration Loop will be built across the PDD at the fifth storey. This elevated pedestrian walkway offers inter-connectivity that fosters vibrant academia-industry exchange and interaction. Through its formal and informal shared spaces, the Collaboration Loop will facilitate industry engagement workshops, networking sessions, student attachments, career mentoring, as well as research and prototyping development.
