Choose the path that fits your passion. Whether you opt for our new 4-year SIT BEng (Hons)—a direct route to Professional Engineer (PE) status focused on digitalisation, automation and sustainability—or our 3-year Joint Degree with the University of Glasgow with further learning, with its global immersion in Scotland, you’ll graduate industry-ready.

Singapore’s Built Environment sector is undergoing a major transformation to become more productive, digitalised and sustainable. Under the refreshed Built Environment Industry Transformation Map (BE ITM), the industry is advancing towards integrated lifecycle delivery, advanced manufacturing and greener urban systems.

There is strong demand for engineers trained in:

  • Integrated Planning & Design (IPD) — Coordinated, lifecycle-focused engineering solutions
  • Advanced Manufacturing & Assembly (AMA) — DfMA, robotics and automation for productivity and quality
  • Integrated Digital Delivery (IDD) — BIM, digital twins and data-driven workflows
  • Sustainable Urban Systems (SUS) — Low-carbon, climate-resilient infrastructure

Developed in close consultation with industry partners including the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), the Land Transport Authority (LTA), contractors and consultancies, this programme equips graduates with the competencies required for high-value, future-ready roles in a transforming sector.

SIT’s 4-year Civil Engineering degree emphasises:
  • Applied learning and real-world problem solving
  • Strong industry integration and immersion
  • Professional readiness from day one

The 4-year curriculum strengthens engineering fundamentals and professional experience while meeting the academic requirements for direct Professional Engineers Board (PEB) recognition. You graduate ready — academically and professionally.

Professional Recognition

The programme is designed to meet the requirements of:

  • Engineering Accreditation Board (EAB)
  • Professional Engineers Board (PEB)

Graduates will be eligible to register directly for the Professional Engineer (PE) Examination — no additional academic qualifications required.

The curriculum ensures strong foundations in mathematics and engineering science, with proficiency across structural, geotechnical, construction, hydraulics, environmental and transport engineering.

Programme Highlights
  • Direct eligibility for PE Examination
  • 8-month Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP)
  • 3-week Overseas Immersion Programme at Chongqing University, China
  • Strong emphasis on Digitalisation, Automation and Sustainability
  • Alignment with Singapore’s Built Environment transformation

Integrated Work Study Programme

Students undertake an 8-month structured industry immersion that integrates academic learning with professional practice. You will:

  • Gain experience in both design office and field/site supervision roles
  • Apply classroom knowledge to real engineering challenges
  • Develop career, professional and innovation skills
  • Complete your Capstone Project in collaboration with industry

Field/site supervision experience supports professional registration pathways, including recognition towards Resident Engineer requirements with Institution of Engineers Singapore or the Association of Consulting Engineers Singapore.

Overseas Immersion Programme

Students participate in a 3-week Overseas Immersion Programme at Chongqing University, gaining international perspectives and insights into the future of construction and infrastructure delivery.

The programme includes:

  • Lectures and workshops on AI, automation and smart construction
  • Visits to advanced manufacturing facilities and construction sites
  • Exposure to emerging global engineering practices
  • Cultural immersion experiences

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the SIT Civil Engineering programme are equipped with versatile technical and professional competencies applicable across Singapore’s infrastructure and Built Environment sectors. Career pathways include:

  • Building and Construction
Plan, design and deliver major infrastructure projects such as bridges, highways, residential developments and commercial buildings — ensuring structural safety, compliance and buildability.
  • Engineering Design Consultancy
Develop innovative and sustainable engineering solutions using advanced modelling and digital tools. Collaborate with architects, developers and contractors across the project lifecycle.
  • Facility Management and Operations
Oversee the maintenance and performance of complex facilities including hospitals, commercial buildings and industrial developments — ensuring operational efficiency and safety standards.
  • Government Agencies Contribute to national infrastructure development through roles in ministries and statutory boards such as BCA and LTA, supporting urban planning, regulatory oversight and sustainability initiatives.
  • Property Development Evaluate site feasibility, coordinate infrastructure planning and manage project delivery for residential and commercial developments, balancing cost, performance and sustainability.
