About the Donor

The Bursary is made possible by a gift from the Tan sisters to honour their father Mr George E P Tan, a lawyer and founder of his own solicitors’ office who also actively taught Judo and ballroom dancing, and their mother Mrs Julie Tan, an appointed Justice of the Peace, a dedicated champion of women’s rights and the founder of the first and only credit union for women in Singapore. Both were trained in law. One used the training as a living and the other to improve lives. The donors hope the recipients of the Julie and George E P Tan Bursary will educate themselves, live their lives engagingly and leave a legacy which they can be proud of. Most of all, strive to be the light to their families and the larger society.
