Organisation
We strive to be a sustainable organisation where environmental stewardship, well-being and responsible operations are part of everyday campus life. Sustainability is not only incorporated in the design and fitting out of our physical spaces, but its principles are also embedded across our operations, culture and governance. We believe that by surrounding ourselves with a sustainable and conducive environment, we enhance the quality of our work and study spaces.

In FY2025 Through operating the District Cooling System and generating solar energy, SIT avoided ~6,286 tCO₂e, equivalent to ~15,600 MWh of grid electricity. That is equivalent to annual electricity consumption of about 3,641 four-room HDB flats in Singapore. |

In FY2025 SIT introduced a policy requiring that catered buffets not use disposable tableware. As a result, 42% of events used reusable or bring-your-own (BYO) crockery and cutlery. This resulted in avoiding >23,000 sets of single-use cutlery, equivalent to >900kg of single-use plastic. |
Staff well-being is supported through the Holistic Well-Being Framework which covers Physical, Mental and Social Well-Being. SIT also has a staff-led Employee Wellness Committee (EWC) dedicated to strengthening cohesion among employees through organising activities that enhance personal growth and well-being. | SIT is developing a Sustainable Procurement Policy for implementation by 2027. Procurement practices are guided by the 4Rs framework (Reduce, Reuse, Responsible Sourcing and Responsible Disposal) and supported by mandatory non-Conflict of Interest declarations. |
Designed for Sustainability
Sustainability was central to the planning of SIT's Punggol Campus. Through energy-efficient buildings, renewable energy systems and responsible water management, the campus was designed to reduce environmental impact while supporting a high-quality learning environment.
Connecting our energy systems
SIT’s Multi-Energy Microgrid (MEMG), the first to be constructed on a university campus in Southeast Asia, reflects our long-term approach to reducing operational carbon intensity. The system also serves as a platform to support applied learning, research and experimentation in a real-world environment.
SIT has more than 20,000 Internet of Things (IoT) sensors that collect real-time data across environmental conditions, resource usage and occupancy patterns, feeding into an Integrated Building Management System (IBMS). The data provides valuable insights to set informed goals, as well as drive smarter operations and continuous improvements in resource and operational efficiency.
Cooling is one of the largest contributors to building energy consumption in Singapore. To improve efficiency, Punggol Campus is connected to a District Cooling System (DCS), which supplies chilled water from a centralised cooling plant.
Greening our laboratories
Laboratories are among the most resource-intensive facilities on campus, with high energy, water, chemical and waste footprints. As part of our ongoing effort to reduce our environmental impact, SIT is progressively embedding sustainable practices into laboratory operations.

Working towards zero waste
At SIT, we actively reduce waste generated through waste minimisation and resource recovery initiatives.
Disposable takeaway containers and utensils are not provided at our food courts. Instead, patrons are encouraged to bring their own containers or use reusable alternatives available on campus. In addition, SIT introduced a policy requiring that catered buffets not use disposable tableware. Instead, we encourage bring-your-own (BYO) or reusable tableware.
Food waste from campus food courts is segregated and processed on-site with some of the output used for campus landscaping.
Together, these initiatives support our efforts to reduce waste generation and promote more responsible consumption behaviours on campus.
The well-being of our staff and students is central to SIT's approach to sustainability. We provide programmes, support services and community initiatives that promote physical, mental and social well-being across the University.
For students, support is available through counselling services, well-being resources and student-led initiatives such as the Peer Supporters, which equips students with basic emotional support and suicide awareness skills to better support their peers.
For employees, a range of well-being programmes support mental, physical and social wellness. These include the Employee Assistance Programme, health screening initiatives and activities organised by the staff-led Employee Wellness Committee (EWC), which helps foster connection and well-being across the University.
Fostering a Conducive Workplace Culture
SIT's workplace culture is anchored by its core values of Agility, Integrity, Sustainability, Respect, Purpose and Excellence (ASPIRE). These values guide how we work, learn and engage with one another, fostering a supportive and inclusive community.
To strengthen a shared culture, the Culture Induction Programme introduces staff to SIT's core values and their practical application in daily work, aimed to build a positive and conducive work culture. Various learning opportunities and engagement activities further reinforce SIT's core values.
