Graduation Requirements
Learners enrolled in a Master’s by Coursework programme must pass all specified assessments and programme requirements, obtain 60 credits, and achieve a minimum CGPA of 2.50 by the end of the final study trimester to be awarded the relevant qualification.
The programme may comprise the following components:
-
Discipline modules
Discipline modules: These modules cover the core learning objectives or competencies in the discipline that learners undertake. The total credits for discipline modules would typically cumulate to at least 48 credits. This includes credits for any thesis or project module(s) if these are included in the programme design.
-
Unrestricted Electives
Unrestricted Electives: These are intended for learners to explore any subjects outside the programme’s core discipline. The total number of credits for unrestricted electives is up to 12 credits. Learners may also choose to take Level 3000/4000 modules to satisfy the unrestricted electives requirements with approval from their Programme Leaders (PLs).
-
Thesis or Project
Thesis or Project: Programmes may incorporate projects within multiple discipline modules and/or have a single integrative thesis/project component. The thesis or project component enables learners to demonstrate the integration of knowledge and application of skills acquired within and/or across various modules. Where an integrative thesis or project forms part of the programme requirements, it will, unless otherwise stated, typically carry up to 12 credits and is considered part of the discipline modules.
Learners are also required to complete a set of non-credit-bearing micro-modules on topics outside the formal curriculum as part of the graduation requirements. Learners may be required to pass certain non-credit-bearing requirements before they are allowed to take the related credit-bearing modules.
Learners are to complete the following compulsory## micro-modules within the first trimester:
- Code of Conduct for Learners (renamed from Student Honour Code with effect from AY2026),
- Respect and Consent; and
- Safety 101 (renamed from Campus Health & Safety: Our Responsibility with effect from AY2026)
## Learners who do not complete these compulsory micro-modules within the first trimester will not be able to access their academic results at the end of the trimester.
For more information on the programmes’ curriculum structure, which includes the list of modules to be taken and the duration of the programmes, learners may refer to the relevant Curriculum Structure document available in the Student Intranet (SIT log-in credentials are required).
Learners who follow the recommended academic workload each trimester should be able to complete the programme within the normal candidature period of six trimesters (two years).
Learners who exceed the normal candidature period of study may be granted an additional 6 trimesters (2 years) to complete the programme.
Learners may be assigned an academic advisor/mentor to guide them in their course of study at SIT. Learners are encouraged to approach their academic advisors/mentors should they face any issues in their studies.
