About the Donor

Temasek Foundation launched this scholarship in honour of Mr G Muthukumarasamy. Two other eminent unionists - Mr Nachiappan RK Sinniah and Mr Nithiah Nandan s/o Arumugam – were also honoured by Temasek Foundation with a scholarship named after each. The Temasek Foundation - G Muthukumarasamy Scholarship and the Temasek Foundation - Nithiah Nandan Arumugam Scholarship are available at SIT.

Mr G Muthukumarasamy was a well-respected unionist who made it his life’s work to protect the interest of daily rated workers and low income workers, and was their champion for better work prospects and wages. A firm believer in tripartism, he encouraged unions to work with employers and the Government for the betterment of workers. He also firmly believed in training as the key to improving the lives of workers and persuaded daily rated workers to upgrade themselves.

Temasek Foundation supports a diverse range of programmes that uplift lives and communities in Singapore and beyond. Temasek Foundation’s programmes, made possible through philanthropic endowments gifted by Temasek, strive towards achieving positive outcomes for individuals and communities now, and for generations to come. Collectively, Temasek Foundation’s programmes strengthen social resilience, foster international exchange and regional capabilities, advance science, and protect the planet.
