Tan Sri (Dr) Tan Chin Tuan Scholarship

The Tan Sri (Dr) Tan Chin Tuan Scholarship was established to support deserving students pursuing a full-time SIT-conferred degree programme (including joint degree programmes) at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT).

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

  • Applicable to students who are pursuing a full-time SIT-conferred degree programme (including joint degree programmes) offered by the Institute.
  • Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents.
  • Have achieved outstanding academic results as the Institute may in its sole discretion determine.
  • Have good character record. 
  • Have made significant contributions beyond academic studies to the Institute or the community.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with a household per capita income (PCI) of no more than S$1,750; and
  • Applicant applying for the 1st time must submit a 300-word essay based on the following:
    1. What does being a Tan Sri (Dr) Tan Chin Tuan Scholar mean to you?
    2. How do you think you can impact your friends, family, SIT and the community positively?
    3. Can you address one social issue that you had observed and share your views on it.

Applicant applying for re-award must submit a 300-word essay based on the following:

  1. Having been a Tan Sri (Dr) Tan Chin Tuan Scholar, what did it mean for you?
  2. Share how have you made a positive impact on your friends, family, SIT and the community?
  3. What is one social issue you observed and what can you do about it?
  4. Why would you be the right choice to receive this scholarship a second time?

Benefits and Obligation of Scholarship

  • Each Scholarship, valued at $10,000, is applicable for one (1) academic year.
  • The Scholarship shall be used for the recipients' educational expenses such as tuition fees, course materials, expenses for study trips and fees for other educational activities organised by the Institute.
  • Recipients are required to attend the Scholar’s Tea (Tête-à-Tête @ TCTF) held annually at the Tan Chin Tuan Mansion.
  • Recipients of this Scholarship may accept other scholarship(s) concurrently. 

About the Donor

The Scholarship is made possible by a gift from the Tan Chin Tuan Foundation, which aims to provide assistance to the deserving in the community and help those who help themselves. The Foundation strives to achieve optimal social outcomes that are measurable and sustainable, particularly in education and community development.

How To Apply

Applications for Public Bursaries, Donated Bursaries & Scholarships will commence in July 2022. Do keep a look out for more information which will be sent to your SIT e-mail address.

Matriculated students may access the online application form via the SIT Student Intranet - IN4SIT.

Applicants will need to complete and submit the online application form after uploading all required supporting documents through the application portal by the given deadline. Scholarship applicants are expected to upload an endorsed Letter of Recommendation and their SIT Record of Achievement (where applicable).
