Dr Ang Poon Liat Bursary

The Dr Ang Poon Liat Bursary was established to support financially disadvantaged but deserving students pursuing selected full-time undergraduate degrees at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT).

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Full-time students pursuing either of the following degree programmes offered by the Institute:
    • Dietetics and Nutrition
    • Nursing
  • Are Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents.
  • Have a household per capita income (PCI) of not more than $1,000.

Tenure and Benefits of the Bursary:

  • Each Bursary is valued at S$5,000 and is tenable for one academic year.
  • The Bursary shall be used for the recipient’s educational expenses such as tuition fees, course materials, expenses for study trips and fees for other educational activities organised by the Institute.
  • Recipients of this Bursary may accept another bursary concurrently.
  • No bond is required of the recipient.

About the Donor

The Bursary is made possible by a gift from Dr Ang Poon Liat, who wishes to encourage Nursing students and Dietetics and Nutrition students at SIT who will occupy a critical role in aiding recovery, and extending health span and lifespan of their patients once they graduate.

Dr Ang previously served as a senior consultant paediatrician with over 45 years of paediatric practice, and as founder and chairman of the specialist Thomson Paediatric group practice based at Thomson Medical Centre since its inception in 1978. He is now retired and spends time giving public lectures on medical nutrition.

Dr Ang wrote a set of two books which was launched in 2015 - The first book is “The Wonders of Nutrition” and the second is “The Roadmaps to Recovery”. Written with a social agenda to improve people’s knowledge of good nutrition and arm them with the practical skill to “use good food as medicine”. His primary purpose is to prevent people from suffering chronic degenerative diseases, which are responsible for our rising healthspan world-wide. The 2nd book provides roadmaps for recovery from major epidemics of chronic degenerative diseases, such as: obesity and diabetes, heart attacks and strokes, dementia and Alzheimer’s diseases, and cancer. Dr Ang’s aim is that everyone should enjoy healthy longevity.

How To Apply

Applications for Public Bursaries, Donated Bursaries & Scholarships will commence in July 2022. Do keep a look out for more information which will be sent to your SIT e-mail address.

Matriculated students are to submit their Financial Aid application via the SIT Student Intranet - IN4SIT. Do note that students are to connect to the SIT VPN before accessing IN4SIT. 

Applicants will need to complete and submit the online application form and upload all required supporting documents through the application portal by the given deadline.
