Project Background

A study conducted by Choo et. al. (2010) showed that approximately 9% of video gamers in Singapore, the 5th highest in the world, demonstrate pathological symptoms.. Parents are presented with a significant challenge in managing their children’s video gaming habits. There are few resources available for parents to learn more about managing their children's gaming habits. Existing game information sites typically adopt a content-centric approach, which does not alleviate parental concerns, such as time displacement and social interactions.

This project seeks to develop a Video Games Repository for Parents (VGRP) prototype, which serves as a video game information resource. It endeavours to educate parents on the various issues related to children’s video gaming usage, as well as to provide parents with relevant information about the video games their children are consuming. Such information is essential for parental management of children’s video game consumption.

Finally, the resource can provide youth video gamers with the ability and information needed to make informed decisions about their own video gaming behaviours.
