Electro-Mechanical Systems Technology
This module will equip students with the knowledge and understanding of the physical design and principles of operation of a wide variety of sensors and actuator types found in electro-mechanical systems.
The topics covered in this module include:
Introduction to elements of control and measurement systems: sensors, actuators, interfacing devices and controllers
Nature of signals: analogue and digital; discretization and quantization errors; time and frequency domains; sampling and aliasing issues; conversion and interfacing
Sensors: types, basic operating principles and design and performance specifications; force, strain, position, velocity, acceleration, temperature
Actuators: types and operating principles and design and performance characteristics of electromagnetic, Fluid-power
Basic concepts of data acquisition systems: Analogue to Digital conversions and vice-versa, sampling theorem and aliasing, resolution and quantization errors.
Introduction to Programmable Logic Control
