Lean Masterclass: The Lean Way for Audit and Finance Professionals

Course Synopsis

Audit and Finance professionals have a responsibility to help their organisations improve processes and raise performance year on year. This course aims to equip participants with a mix of Lean, Audit and Accounting skills. After completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Translate strategy into execution using Hoshin
  • Identify and leverage on opportunities for process improvement
  • Spot non-complying and resource-wasting activities
  • Uncover genuine financial improvements that are hidden in traditional accounting
  • Create a greater level of knowledge sharing and collaboration between auditor and organisational stakeholders
  • Appreciate the application of FinTech to enhance auditing and accounting processes

Randy Choo

Project Director, Lean Transformation Innovation Centre, Singapore Institute of Technology

Randy has been involved in Lean Six Sigma for more than 20 years and he has headed operations excellence initiatives in several companies. He has also held senior positions in several US and European MNCs. As Plant Manager, he managed P&L with a turnover of $30 million. As Regional Director, he managed close to 200 staff in 8 APAC countries from Taiwan to Australia. With his extensive experience in management and Lean Six Sigma, Randy is well-positioned to work with companies to achieve business excellence.


Chu Mui Kim

Senior Lecturer, Singapore Institute of Technology
Master in Business Administration, University of Southern Queensland

Mui Kim graduated with an accountancy degree from NUS with second-class honours.   She is a Chartered Accountant of Singapore and is a member of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants.  She also has a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern Queensland.

Mui Kim has vast experience in teaching auditing, financial accounting and management accounting related modules at tertiary institutions and had been awarded teaching excellence awards by one of the institutions.  She is also an effective trainer in the area of financial training for corporations.  Her workshops are very well received, as a fundamental part of her training is a focus on the practical application of learning to the daily roles of professional participants.

Prior to teaching, she has worked as a financial analyst with an American MNC in the chemical industry.  In that capacity, she played a regional role by providing financial advice and reviewing the financial results of the affiliates in the Asia Pacific region.  She was also an accounts manager with a computer company where her responsibilities included financial accounting, cash flow management and debt management.  She received a scholarship from KPMG and hence, started her career as an auditor with the firm.
