CTIL Focused Workshop on the Application of High-Strength Structural Steel and Demonstration of Robotic Welding, Quench and Tempering (QT), and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

Thursday, 11 June 2026, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM

The Construction Technology Innovation Laboratory (CTIL) at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), with the support of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and Land Transport Authority (LTA), invites you to join a focused Workshop on the Application of High-Strength Structural Steel and Demonstration of Robotic Welding, Quench and Tempering (QT) and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) on Thursday,11 June 2026, at the SIT Punggol Campus.

This focused workshop will bring together researchers, engineers, fabricators, regulators, and industry practitioners to explore the latest advancements in high-strength structural steel and emerging construction technologies for the built environment sector.

The programme features technical presentations, industry case studies, and live demonstrations covering robotic welding, quench and tempering (QT) processes, non-destructive testing (NDT), and material characterisation of ultra-thick steel sections in S460M, S550M, and S690Q steel.

Hear from the presentations by distinguished speakers from government agencies, leading universities, consultants, contractors, fabricators, and researchers. Highlights include the Opening Address by Guest-of-Honour, Er. Thanabal Kaliannan, Commissioner of Building Control, BCA, and a keynote presentation by Ir. Prof. Chung Kwok Fai, Founding Director of the Chinese National Engineering Research Centre for Steel Construction (Hong Kong Branch), on the effective use of high-strength S690 to S960 steel in construction.

Also gain valuable industry insights through presentations on the Clifford Centre Re-Development (CCRD) Project, including the design, fabrication, and construction challenges associated with mega-trusses and kingpost systems using S690 high-strength steel. In addition, the workshop will showcase the latest developments in robotic welding technologies and practical approaches to overcoming welding challenges in ultra-thick high-strength steel applications.

A key highlight of the workshop is the live demonstration sessions at the CTIL Construction Laboratory, featuring robotic welding, quench and tempering (QT) processes, and non-destructive testing (NDT), which are critical technologies to support high-strength steel. Through these hands-on demonstrations and knowledge-sharing sessions, participants will deepen their understanding of the latest technologies and quality assurance processes that support safe, productive, and sustainable adoption of high-strength steel construction.

We warmly welcome you to join us at SIT Punggol Campus for this focused technical workshop and networking opportunity with industry experts and practitioners.
