Rarely does one arriving at work on a weekday get greeted by the aroma of sizzling eggs and crisping crepes. Wednesday, 28 February 2024 was one such rare exception for SIT employees, who gathered at the University Tower lobby at SIT@Dover for a good cause – the Faculty & Staff Giving (FSG) Roadshow 2024.

The daily arrival of SIT faculty and staff to commence their day set the FSG roadshow in motion. Many queued up for their breakfast, while they found out more about the initiative from some students who have been the beneficiaries of FSG, as well as their Advancement & Alumni division colleagues.

FSG provides an opportunity for Faculty & Staff to nurture SITizens by supporting two different initiatives: the SIT Bursary for financially disadvantaged students, as well as AdventureLearn, a holistic student development platform. This year, the SIT Bursary will again benefit the university’s Forward SITizen Initiative (FSI), which makes possible full tuition-fee support for the most financially needy undergraduate students. SITizens who are eligible for this Initiative will have 100% of their subsidised tuition fees payable, covered through a combination of the Government Funded Public Bursary and/or Donated Scholarships and Bursaries offered at SIT.

Some bursary recipients who were present also got to interact with Professor Chua Kee Chaing, SIT President; Professor John Thong, SIT Deputy President (Academic) & Provost; and Professor Tan Thiam Soon, SIT Institute Professor, who were in attendance to show their support for the initiative. Said Mr Ling Zhi Peng, from the Chemical Engineering programme and a recipient of the SIT Bursary: “I am immensely grateful for the generous support made towards my education. Our faculty and staff have not only lightened my financial burden, but they have also given me the opportunity to dedicate more time to volunteering at St John’s Singapore. Their belief in my potential motivates me to make the most of this support to give back to the community.”

Since its launch in 2015, more than 340 donors have given to support the Faculty & Staff Giving initiative. As at 31 March 2024, more than 64 SIT Bursaries and over $3,000 have been raised for AdventureLearn Development Fund for Academic Year (AY 2023/24) and beyond.

May our hearts continue to take our SITizens further forward!
