Customised Free-Standing Automated External Defibrillator Stand

Automated External Defibrillator (AED) boxes are typically mounted on building walls . Placing them at visible and easy-to-access locations can help save the lives of cardiac-arrest victims during emergencies. However, they are currently not available at large outdoor areas and parks where there are no walls to mount the boxes on.

Challenges

  • To design a free-standing solar-powered stand to mount the AED.
  • To protect the AED (between $2,500 and $3,000 each) from tampering or theft via a surveillance system that can alert SCDF on the intrusion.

Key Innovation

  • Using technology and simple innovation to enable an AED to be sited, secure, and yet accessible (such as,weather-proof housing for outdoor use) at remote areas for use during real emergencies.
  • The free-standing solar-powered AED stand is equipped with a CCTV camera alarm and wireless 3G communications to send instant messages and images to SCDF.

Upon usage of the AED, photographs of the user with date and time stamp will be captured and sent to SCDF’s and SPF’s Operations Centre via SMS. SCDF will also be able to dispatch an ambulance immediately when the AED is engaged. The CCTV surveillance is primarily to deter malicious acts, theft, and mischief.
