Description:
Sonder is a combined dance production inspired by the realisation that every passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as our own. Anchored in Erik Erikson’s stages of psychosocial development, the performance journeys through eight virtues—Hope, Will, Purpose, Competence, Fidelity, Love, Care, and Wisdom—each reflecting key moments of growth shaped by experience, relationships, and choice. In line with art;SITry’s theme, Our Roots, Sonder reflects on how we are shaped by where we begin and how we grow. As SIT establishes its roots in Punggol, the production highlights shared journeys of identity, connection, and becoming.

Sonder is brought to life by our dance groups - Ballroom, Dancesport, Soul Extreme, and Poco A Poco - together with friends from NUS FunkStyles, and our resident dance instructors Jean, Joelynn, Lorencia, Luqman, and Robin.

Description:
A dance production that explores the idea of ‘Our Roots’ through the universal language of cinema. Movie shapes how we dream, how we move and how we see ourselves. Long before we understand who we are, we are already absorbing stories be it on screens, in living rooms, in theatres. That experience quietly becomes part of our reality.

This production traces the roots of movements, culture and self by reimagining iconic movie worlds through dance. Each piece draws different inspiration from a different film genre or cinematic era, not to replicate scenes but to extract their emotional core. Fear, Love, Rebellion, Hope, Ambition and translate them to physical story telling.

Every tree begins with roots unseen, quietly growing before reaching towards the sky. In the same way, our lives are shaped by the memories we carry, the places we call home, and the people who become part of our story.

Through an evening of expressive piano music, Pianissimo traces this journey of growth. Audiences will experience moments of nostalgia, discovery, belonging, and reflection as each performance captures a different stage of life's journey. Enhanced by a planetarium-inspired setting and collaborative performances with guest musicians, the recital celebrates the experiences that take root within us and continue to shape who we become.

Punggol today is Singapore’s youngest waterfront town. But beneath it lies a far richer story. Walk with us through the Punggol Digital District and its surroundings as we uncover the area’s coastal farming past, its pig farms and fish ponds, and the forgotten zoo that once drew crowds with Malayan tigers and polar bears. Along the way, we touch on the shadows of the Second World War that still linger over this corner of the island, before ending with the Punggol 21 vision that reimagined it all.
