Broaden your learning horizons overseas

Overseas Immersion Programme (OIP) for Joint Degree Programmes

The OIP is compulsory for all students pursuing Joint or OU undergraduate programmes*. These programmes are designed to provide greater learning experiences, including lectures, hands-on project work, workshops, and industry visits at the OU. Students will get to interact with their university professors and mentors while experiencing life abroad with their overseas peers. Participation in OIP will be reflected in students' Record of Achievement (ROA).

*This excludes students from the Food Technology programme with Massey University. Students may complete their Final-Year Project in the form of OIP in New Zealand, subject to placement availability. Students who do not attend the OIP will be required to complete a paper of equivalent weightage in Singapore.

Beyond the classroom, exploring Sydney’s vibrant culture deepened my appreciation for inclusivity and global citizenship. A key highlight was the Pitch Night, where we witnessed passionate entrepreneurs presenting ideas they truly believed in - an inspiring moment that reminded me to persevere and stay resilient in pursuing what matters most. This experience reinforced that learning extends beyond textbooks; it is about embracing the unfamiliar and discovering new versions of yourself through every connection made.

My Overseas Immersion Programme experience at TalTech was both inspiring and eye opening. Immersing myself in Estonia’s vibrant tech culture deepened my understanding of how cybersecurity is approached within the EU. Industry visits to various cybersecurity related agencies and companies were especially impactful, providing valuable insights into key defence exercises. This experience broadened my global perspective and strengthened my passion for cybersecurity.

I gained valuable insights into postharvest environments and packaging processes unique to Bangkok. These experiences deepened my understanding of agricultural practices and broadened my perspective on food systems beyond Singapore.
On a personal level, I discovered a quieter, richer side of Thailand—one that goes beyond the bustling malls and traffic I had known as a tourist. From eating vegetables straight from the source to riding ATVs through the farm, I was reminded of the beauty of slowing down—something rarely found in our fast‑paced city life.
Most importantly, this trip reminded me that the best experiences aren’t just about the places you visit, but the people you share them with.

Through the study visits, I observed how Switzerland’s healthcare system operates differently yet effectively, shaped by distinct social values, spatial considerations, and mandatory insurance structures. The Diversity in Health Professions module deepened my appreciation of cultural differences in patient autonomy and family involvement. Living with Swiss locals further grounded these lessons in everyday life, and I made lifelong international friends. This global exposure strengthened my cultural sensitivity and reinforced the importance of empathy, adaptability, and openness in delivering meaningful healthcare across diverse communities.

My week‑long stay in Chongqing, China, for Chongqing University’s Civil Engineering Summer Camp was truly an enriching experience. The advanced technology, robust infrastructure, and breathtaking architecture left a lasting impression on me, showcasing Chongqing’s remarkable growth in recent years. One key highlight of the trip was visiting a concrete precast factory, which demonstrated how advanced Chongqing’s precast technology is compared to many other parts of the world.
