    Assistant Professor
    Dr Kyrin Liong
    Won in AY2019 & AY2018

“At its very core, the classroom practice that the students and I have built together is based on the strong relationship we have. We work hard to create a safe space in which:(i) they know they will be encouraged to find the best way to teach themselves, (ii) they may express their honest constructive views without judgement or interference, and (iii) most importantly, one in which they will always be heard and supported.”

  2. Image alt text

    Assistant Professor
    Dr An Hui
    Won in AY2019 & AY2016

“To enhance student’s learning, it is important to relate content to them by setting real life examples or by making analogy to the knowledge they have learnt before.”

  3. Image alt text

    Associate Professor
    Dr Desmond Chong
    Won in AY2019

“As the Chinese proverb says, “知己知彼,百战百胜”, my teaching philosophy lies with the understanding of my students’ strengths and weaknesses so that I am able to guide them using the most appropriate methods.”

  4. Image alt text

    Assistant Professor
    Dr Tan Kim Seng
    Won in AY2019

“Exercise patience and offer extra help when dealing with harder topics.”

  1. Image alt text

    Associate Professor
    Dr Venkatarayalu Neelakantam
    Won in AY2018 & AY2017

“We should never give up on any student regardless of their ability. The important thing is they should never feel that they are left alone. That can be achieved if we have patience in us to never give up on them and if we need to repeat something, we should by all means do it any number of times as necessary.”

  2. Image alt text

    Associate Professor
    Dr Gan Hiong Yap
    Won in AY2018

“Good decisions come from experience, but experience comes from making bad decisions. When students are able to actually embrace their mistakes with an open mind, I observe that they learn more effectively.”

  3. Image alt text

    Associate Professor
    Dr Mustafa Shabbir Kurbanhusen
    Won in AY2018 & AY2016

“The key essence of my teaching philosophy is to link students’ learning of a certain topic with application on real-world challenges, be it an everyday-life or a workplace setting. With timely feedback, this makes for a win-win combination for students to appreciate what was taught in class with what should then be applied to the industry.”

  4. Image alt text

    Associate Professor
    Dr Andrew Ng
    Won in AY2017

“I integrate case studies, real-world applications, and industry projects into the learning environment, which connects the students’ learning to the real world, makes their learning experience more meaningful, and strengthens their analytical and critical thinking skills.”

  1. Image alt text

    Associate Professor
    Dr Lee Kwee Hiong
    Won in AY2017 & AY2016

“For different modules, we will look at what content needs to be delivered and how to enhance the learning process. We try to create an environment for self-learning and self-discovery and to encourage interaction and learning within the group (peer learning) as well as between groups. While in class or when working with the students, we give them our full attention and focus on building their foundation and knowledge.”

  2. Image alt text

    Associate Professor
    Dr Victor Wang
    Won in AY2017 & AY2016

“Beyond all that technology that we are trying to introduce into our teaching pedagogy, which I think is very important, the time and commitment that we invest on our students to nurture them, to challenge them, to motivate them, to stretch beyond their perceived capabilities are equally important. I’m very excited to have this opportunity to teach our students and pass the knowledge to them; and the sense of fulfilment will come when I see them being able to apply the knowledge into real-life engineering”

  3. Image alt text

    Associate Professor
    Dr Alfred Tan
    Won in AY2016

“People always like to know what the secret behind good teaching is and there are already a lot of best practices out there. Out of all these practices, there’s only one that matters and the place to find it is inside the faculty members, themselves. And, they really have to discover it.”

SITizens

Congratulations to #SITizens Tan Kee Yee and Jing Xianchen for being selected as Energy Ambassadors as part of the Energy Market Authority (EMA)'s Energy Ambassadors Programme (EAP) 2021!

They join 9 other student ambassadors who have a keen interest in energy-related issues and who are interested in contributing to the energy sector. Carrve Ngai

Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Telematics (Intelligent Transportation Systems Engineering)
Date of graduation: September 2019
First job after graduation:  Pre-sales Engineer

1. How are you enjoying your work?
I enjoyed working with my colleagues and supervisors. It was a very culture friendly and flexible environment that made me enjoy my work. I participated in the tendering process for government tenders and prepared technical proposals and quotations that meet the clients' requirements.

2. How has your SIT journey influenced your current role or career path?
During my 3 years in SIT, I served 2 internships; one during my summer break as a Junior Research Associate, and one during my 8 months IWSP as a Mobility Trainee, which I chanced upon people from my current company and joined them after my graduation. SIT has greatly helped me to open up a network of connections within the transportation industry and guided me towards this career path that I enjoy.

3. Have you been in contact with the SIT community recently? E.g. Intern students? Projects? Alumni activities?
My company looks up to students from SIT and often hire SIT students to serve their internships here. Therefore, I am in contact with my SIT juniors even after they complete their internships. Additionally, as a pre-sales engineer, my SIT professor also contacted me for any sales opportunities that my company can support.

4. Any advice or pointers for SIT ENG students to have a good start in their career?
Seek for internship opportunities from school emails/professors/family/friends if you have any short breaks between the trimester. Start looking for job opportunities before you graduate and find jobs that are relevant to your course (if you enjoy it). Keep your lecture notes with you for a few years before tossing them away as you wouldn't know when you will need to refer to them when you start working, especially as an engineer!

BEng in Mechanical Design Engineering
Date of graduation: October 2019
First job after graduation:  Design Engineer

1. How are you enjoying your work?
Having relevancy of programme modules that support my current job scope. Ultimately about having influence on the design process before new product launches.

2. How has your SIT journey influenced your current role or career path?
SIT has provided me with the platform and opportunities to excel in my field of study.

My visit to the University of Glasgow in Scotland substantially grew my interest in Engineering as the professors there were evidently passionate about their craft.

I managed to find my true calling to Engineering when I was in Scotland, but this would not have been possible if not for the unwavering support from both SIT and Mendaki.

3. Have you been in contact with the SIT community recently? E.g. Intern students? Projects? Alumni activities?
Yes I have had interactions with a couple of interns from SIT, some of which have gone on to graduate and return as a full-timer. (i.e. Huang Junkai and Aaron Tan)

I have also been involved in the SIT-JDF Mentorship Programme which presents me the opportunity to contribute back to my alma mater; With the privilege of mentoring junior engineers that are in the midst of paving their career ahead. JDF engineers was involved in one of their modules, Mechanical Design, where teams were tasked to get creative with problems of a face mask.

On top of that, I returned as an Alumni to participate in the Inter-Cluster Games 2020 for Futsal.

4. Any advice or pointers for SIT ENG students to have a good start in their career?
One advice would be to identify your purpose as an engineer, and the industry you want to be involved in; How do you want to influence the world to change (for the better)?
