Associate Professor Kenneth Low
Cluster Director
Engineering

Welcome to our Engineering cluster webpages. We are a group of faculty and researchers who walk the talk – we practise what we teach, and we teach what we practise.

Our faculty members have domain expertise in a wide range of engineering disciplines and collectively with very significant industry experience. We include professional engineers, chartered engineers, certified and licensed engineers affiliated with various professional engineering bodies in both the public and private sectors. For example, some of us are certified under the Singapore Certified Energy Manager (SCEM) programme of the National Environment Agency and are active in conducting energy efficiency assessments for the industry with our students, while others write textbooks capturing their rich industry experience for teaching in universities around the world.

Most of our faculty members have doctorate degrees and are active in industry-facing applied research and innovation activities, producing solutions that make our research impact felt through industry and community transformation. Examples include new construction materials and methods to reduce our dependency on labour in the construction sector, and new electricity distribution architecture to accommodate higher adoption of solar photovoltaic power generation.

Above all, we are enthusiastic educators who love to teach what we professionally practise to our students and prepare them for their future careers in the engineering world. We bring our industry experience into the classrooms and laboratories through authentic teaching and assessment. We bring our latest applied research outcomes with the industry into our curriculum so that our graduates are well equipped to handle future emerging technologies.

As we also strongly believe in lifelong learning, we continue to engage our graduates through applied research collaboration with their employers, and through continuing education and training (CET) in our postgraduate programmes and short courses. For example, it is heartening to have prepared and inspired some of our engineering alumni to take their first steps to become professional engineers by going through the first stage professional examination of the Professional Engineers Board of Singapore.

So, whether you are a prospective student looking for a degree programme to enrol in, or a prospective employer or industry collaborator, we warmly welcome you to find out more about us on this website.

Engineering and technological innovations have been instrumental in Singapore’s transformation from a third-world nation to a first-world nation. Engineers will continue to play a critical role as Singapore strives towards sustainability and digitalisation in the next decade.

Our engineering degree programmes cover a wide range of disciplines, from the traditional civil, electrical, and mechanical disciplines to specialised programmes such as Robotics Systems Engineering, Sustainable Built Environment, and Engineering Systems that cater to the dynamic requirements of modern industries.

As Singapore’s first university of applied learning, we embrace an authentic and experiential learning approach to make engineering education more engaging and to support the acquisition of technical skills desired by industry. Through our Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP), students acquire relevant experience through a work attachment with a company for a period of up to 12 months. Our degree programmes also infuse interdisciplinary and transferable skills such as critical and design thinking, social innovation, and digital skills through the SIT Undergraduate Programme Structure.

We are also working on transforming engineering education through the Competency-based Stackable Micro-credential (CSM) pathway, where learners can acquire industry-relevant knowledge and skills, demonstrating mastery of skill competencies for a new job role or function.

To support lifelong learning, we provide continuing education training through postgraduate programmes and short courses tailored to the needs of industry professionals. We also offer Industry Master’s and Doctorate research-based programmes where our faculty members work closely with individuals and companies on industry-focused research.

We invite you to join our vibrant community, to explore, create, and innovate towards excellence in engineering education and research.
