Overview
Geotechnical engineering is key to shaping Singapore’s urban landscape. With the growing demand for sustainable and resilient infrastructure, engineers need up-to-date technical expertise to address the industry’s evolving challenges.
This includes specialised skills in the design of foundations, excavations and tunnels as well as awareness of the latest advancements and innovations.
The SIT Graduate Certificate in Geotechnical Engineering (GCert GeoEng) prepares engineers with advanced technical and hands-on expertise to solve complex geotechnical engineering problems related to ground and soil conditions in a sustainable and innovative way.
Each module, worth 6 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) credits, can be taken individually or stack towards a GCert GeoEng and progress toward earning a Master of Science in Civil Engineering.
Modules Available
Modules are stackable towards a GCert GeoEng. They can also be taken individually.
Prerequisites
- A Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Civil Engineering
Core Modules
You are required to complete the following two Core Modules.
Code | Module | Credits |
---|---|---|
CVE6007 | Shallow and Deep Foundations* | 6 |
CVE6009 | Deep Excavation and Tunnelling* | 6 |
Elective Modules
You are required to complete one Elective Module.
Code | Module | Credits |
---|---|---|
CVE6006 | Advanced Geotechnical Engineering | 6 |
CVE6008 | Numerical Modelling in Geotechnics* | 6 |
CVE6010 | Land Reclamation and Ground Improvement | 6 |
*Modules subsidised by SkillsFuture Singapore.
Certificate and Assessment
A Certificate of Attainment for each module will be issued to candidates who
- Attend at least 75% of each module, and
- Undertake and pass credit-bearing assessment during the module
- Participants will be awarded a GCert GeoEng if they complete two core modules and one elective module (totalling 18 credits) with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0
- The GCert is stackable towards SIT’s Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSc CVE), and candidates who attain a CGPA of 2.5 or above may apply for transfer to the MSc CVE programme
Participants who meet the attendance requirement but do not pass the assessment will receive a Certificate of Participation.
