Overview
As industries race to meet net-zero targets and adopt cleaner technologies, there is growing demand for professionals who can assess and improve energy performance at both system and component levels.
The SIT Graduate Certificate in Electrical Energy Efficiency and Sustainability equips learners with the knowledge and skills to design energy-efficient electrical systems. This includes conducting in-depth audits and developing practical solutions that are not only technically sound, but also environmentally and economically viable.
This programme focuses on the application of sustainable engineering principles, the use of modern instrumentation and analytics, and the integration of ethical and societal considerations in energy decision-making. Learners will gain proficiency in evaluating life cycle costs, analysing power losses, and optimising systems such as motors, HVAC, lighting, and compressed air. Learners will also undertake an applied project to investigate and solve a complex problem in energy efficiency, guided by experienced faculty and industry professionals.
Each module is worth 6 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) credits and is taken concurrently as part of the Graduate Certificate in Electrical Energy Efficiency and Sustainability. This certificate can also serve as a pathway to the Master of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Modules Available
Each Graduate Certificate consists of three modules, which must be taken concurrently and completed within a single trimester.
Prerequisites
- A relevant bachelor’s degree from a recognised university
- At least one year of relevant working experience
Relevant degrees include but not limited to:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electrical Power Engineering degree awarded by Newcastle University (AY2013 to AY2016 intakes); or
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electrical Power Engineering degree jointly awarded by SIT and Newcastle University (AY2017 intakes onwards)
List of Modules
Code | Module | Credits |
---|---|---|
EEE6209 | Design for Energy Sustainability | 6 |
EEE6211 | Energy Measurement and Analysis | 6 |
EEE6213 | Integrated Project in Energy Efficiency | 6 |
Note:
The above modules are pending funding approval from SkillsFuture Singapore.
Certificate and Assessment
A Certificate of Attainment for each module will be issued to candidates who
- Attend at least 75% of each module, and
- Undertake and pass credit-bearing assessment during the module
- Participants will be awarded a Graduate Certificate in Electrical Energy Efficiency and Sustainability if they complete all three modules (totalling 18 credits) with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0
- The GCert is stackable towards SIT’s Master of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (MSc EEE), and candidates who attain a CGPA of 2.5 or above may apply for transfer to the MSc EEE programme
Participants who meet the attendance requirement but do not pass the assessment will receive a Certificate of Participation.
