About Course
This module serves as the capstone of the Graduate Certificate in Electrical Energy Efficiency and Sustainability, enabling learners to integrate and apply knowledge gained from prior modules in a practical, industry-relevant project.
Working individually, learners will undertake a comprehensive energy assessment of a selected system or facility, using real-world data and measurement tools to identify inefficiencies and propose actionable solutions.
The module emphasises critical thinking, problem-solving, and professional communication, guiding learners through the process of project scoping, data collection, analysis, and reporting. Learners will also evaluate the broader implications of their proposed solutions, including sustainability, cost-effectiveness, and regulatory compliance.
This module, worth 6 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) credits, is taken concurrently as part of the Graduate Certificate in Electrical Energy Efficiency and Sustainability, which comprises three modules. The certificate can also serve as a pathway to the Master of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Who Should Attend
Prerequisites
- A relevant bachelor’s degree from a recognised university
- At least one year of relevant working experience
Relevant degrees include but not limited to:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electrical Power Engineering degree awarded by Newcastle University (AY2013 to AY2016 intakes); or
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electrical Power Engineering degree jointly awarded by SIT and Newcastle University (AY2017 intakes onwards)
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module, learners will be able to:
- Plan and execute an integrated energy efficiency project, applying measurement and analysis techniques to assess system performance.
- Collect, interpret, and evaluate energy data using appropriate tools and methodologies to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.
- Develop and justify energy-saving recommendations based on technical analysis, sustainability principles, and cost-benefit considerations.
- Communicate project findings effectively through professional reports and presentations tailored to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Reflect on and assess the societal, environmental, and economic impacts of energy efficiency interventions within the context of sustainable development.
