Overview

Cybersecurity is gaining prominence at the highest government levels in many countries.

These countries, in turn, need to formulate holistic and sensible cyber strategies at the national level, to deal with cyber threats, ranging from state-sponsored players to rogue private corporations and individuals.

This 3-day workshop seeks to prepare cybersecurity professionals, especially those in managerial positions in understanding the relationship between cyber warfare and war strategies; various national cyber strategies that are presently being employed by countries, and the role of legal governance in cyberwar.

Who Should Attend

  • Directors of companies and senior management members responsible for cybersecurity, information technology, human resources, risk management, corporate compliance and finance; or
  • Information security, forensic investigators, analysts, auditors, accountants, and corporate compliance and risk management professionals; cybersecurity researchers; or

  • Members of the Armed Forces and law enforcement professionals involved in cybersecurity  

Prerequisites
  • University degree or at least 2 years of working experience

  • Understand the role of war strategy and their application to cyberwars
  • Appreciate the different players in cyberwars from state-sponsored players to private corporations and the different approaches in national cyber strategies
  • Understand the role of legal regimes in response to cyberwar

  • Introduction to the theories and causes of wars by examining key strategy thinkers such as Clausewitz and Sun Tzu amongst others and their applications to cyberwarfare
  • The emergency of information-centric warfare, the role of psychological operations (PSYOPS) and the role of technology in cyberwars
  • The cybersecurity strategy of big powers such as the United States and China
  • Singapore’s Cyber Security Strategy and Legal Governance Framework such as the Cybersecurity Act (2018) and Personal Data Protection Act (2012)

Certificate and Assessment

A Certificate of Participation will be issued to participants who

  • Attend at least 75% of the course
  • Undertake and pass non-credit bearing assessment during the course

    Are there any technical skill needed as a prerequisite?

    No technical skill or pre-qualification is needed as there is no laboratory requirements but you must at least not be adverse to the topic on cybersecurity at large.

    The assessments will include a mixture of tutorial participation and MCQ.

    What is the basic qualification to apply?

    University degree of in discipline or 2 years of working experience. But note that you should be ready to spend time reading up before class in order to benefit maximally from the class discussions.

    Can I apply if I have a Polytechnic diploma?

    Yes, but you will need to have at least 2 years of working experience.

    It is a part-time course.

    No, but you must be interested at least in cybersecurity at the minimum.

    As SSG funding is available, all eligible participants are required to participate in the assessments.
