About Course
Generative AI and agentic AI are moving from pilot projects to enterprise-wide deployment, giving organisations the opportunity to scale AI initiatives with discipline rather than ad hoc spending. Understanding AI economics, including demand, cost drivers and value measurement, enables leaders to allocate resources strategically and build governance into AI adoption from the outset.
This course is the fourth in a six-part Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer and Generative Artificial Intelligence Leadership executive development series, and can be taken independently of the other five.
Learners will be equipped with the frameworks to manage AI economics and build cost controls for enterprise-scale AI adoption.
This course is structured around six core topics: the demand, supply and scarcity dynamics of AI resources; token economics and compute consumption; AI model and deployment options; LLM benchmarks and performance indicators; measuring AI value beyond adoption volume; and designing cost governance controls such as budget caps, model tiering and approval gates. By the end of the course, learners will develop an AI Economics and Control Plan for sustainable AI scaling.
Delivery is classroom-based over two days, combining lecture on frameworks, case study discussion, and hands-on exercises using Straits Interactive's no-code GenAI platform, Capabara.
This course is developed in partnership with Straits Interactive, a leading edtech company committed to enabling organisations to thrive in a business landscape defined by Generative AI.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
- Explain AI economics fundamentals compared to traditional IT software, including the impact of usage-based consumption, compute demand, model choice, and workflow complexity.
- Analyse token economics and compute consumption, including how prompts, context windows, retrieval, tool use, and agentic loops affect workflow costs.
- Compare AI model and deployment options from an economic and performance perspective, including premium models, lower-cost models, open models, RAG-based systems, and multi-model routing.
- Interpret LLM benchmarks and performance indicators to support decisions on model selection, cost-performance trade-offs, and fit-for-purpose deployment.
- Evaluate AI initiatives using value, cost, productivity, quality, risk, scalability, and business impact rather than adoption volume alone.
- Design cost governance controls such as budget caps, usage thresholds, model tiering, routing rules, approval gates, and escalation triggers.
- Develop an AI Economics and Control Plan that supports responsible resource allocation, measurable value creation, and sustainable AI scaling.
