In today’s interconnected world, cybersecurity has emerged as an essential shield, ensuring a secure and resilient digital future for businesses, individuals and society. This specialised micro-credential is a stepping stone for those aspiring to enter the field of cybersecurity, providing learners with up-to-date knowledge and skills in information security, applied cryptography and security analytics.

Covering the six core domains of the AiSP IS-BOK 2.0, you will gain comprehensive knowledge in the field of information security, encompassing governance and management, physical security, business continuity and audit, security architecture and engineering, operation and infrastructure security, software security, and cyber defence.

Next, discover the fundamental cryptographic primitives that are deployed in secure systems today, such as one-way hash functions, symmetric cryptography, public key cryptography, and digital signatures. The course addresses common cryptographic failures, weak designs and practical deployment issues, allowing you to implement various cryptographic protocols to safeguard the systems.

Effectively identifying and responding to security threats requires expertise in security analytics – a branch of information security that blends data visualisation tools, statistical algorithms, querying tools and machine learning techniques. Learn how to analyse various data sources, understand key data elements, and grasp the essentials of data analysis, clustering, classification techniques, machine learning, and visualisation tools. You will also be introduced to modern concepts in AI, natural language processing (NLP), and AI cybersecurity, particularly in digital forensics and emerging threats.

Integrating online and in-person delivery, the micro-credential aligns and prepares you for the Qualified Information Security Professional (QISP) and other globally recognised certifications. It also provides opportunities for you to apply your skills in a real-world context, implementing cryptographic solutions and creating software programs using open-source libraries.

This micro-credential is part of the CSM Pathway in Applied Computing.

Who Should Attend

The micro-credential prepares learners for the following job roles:

  • Cybersecurity engineers
  • IT security engineers
  • Cybersecurity analysts
  • Security Operation Centre (SOC) analysts
Assumed Prior Knowledge

Learners should possess knowledge of basic algebra and have at least one year of experience in any programming language.

What You Will Learn

This micro-credential is predominantly delivered through a competency-based education (CBE) approach where learners acquire and demonstrate mastery of knowledge and skills that are directly relevant to job functions. This prepares them to be industry-ready where they can apply their newly acquired competencies to their work.

List of Competency Units

Code Competency Unit Title Credits
ICT2512C Information Security 6
ICT2513C Applied Cryptography 6
ICT2514C Security Analytics 6

The above are competency units that constitute this micro-credential. Upon completion of the micro-credential, you will be able to:

  • Explain the main concepts and properties of information security, cryptography, security data, and machine learning and AI techniques for cybersecurity
  • Demonstrate real-world security anomaly detection using machine learning open-source libraries and AI techniques
  • Accurately apply cryptography to achieve confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity in real-world applications
  • Implement cryptographic protections to defend security attacks using open-source cryptographic libraries

Coaching for Success

During the course, you will have access to a team of qualified success coaches who can work with you on learning strategies or to develop a personalised learning plan. Through the success coaches, you can gain access to a wide range of resources and support services, and be empowered with the necessary tools to navigate your learning journey successfully.
