Ultrasound involves the use of high frequency ultrasound waves to produce diagnostic quality images.
This is 6-day interactive workshop is designed to provide participants with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills in ultrasound physics and instrumentation that will support their learning and practice in the diagnostic ultrasound field.
The workshop will focus on the function of the controls of the ultrasound machine to facilitate the application of knowledge learnt to produce an optimised image.
Hands-on practicals will be conducted to supplement the didactic teaching. It is ideal for practitioners who wish to expand their scope of practice in medical sonography.
"The course is a good refresher even for radiographers who have learnt about basic principles and physics. It is thorough and a lot of materials are given out."Chun LuanRadiographer, Singapore General Hospital
"Very informative. Explained topics in a manner everyone can understand. [It is] simplified with examples for us to comprehend."PonsicaSonographer, Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital
"This course is very useful for beginner sonographers as they would not have much headway in using the machine's buttons and function. By understanding the physics, we are able to better apply it to the clinical setting."Vanessa LamRadiographer, Gleneagles Hospital
Associate Professor, Health and Social Sciences, Singapore Institute of Technology
Dr. Ooi specialises in ultrasound modality since 2001. She graduated with a Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography from Nanyang Polytechnic in 1998, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Imaging) in 2000 from Charles Sturt University, Australia and Master in Medical Sonography in 2008 from Monash University, Australia. She has completed her PhD in Medical Imaging at Monash University. Her research area focuses on the application of advanced ultrasound imaging technique, namely ultrasound elastography, in the diagnosis and treatment monitoring of musculotendinous problems. Her current research investigates the role of ultrasound elastography in early diagnosis of liver fibrosis and portal hypertension in patients suffering from chronic liver disease. She has received a number of competitive research grants, including the SingHealth Foundation and SGH Research Grant. Dr. Ooi is currently holding Joint Appointment at Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) and was adjunct faculty at Nanyang Polytechnic. She is involved in teaching and training of junior radiographers, medical students and residents. She is currently the PGAHI (Post Graduate Allied Health Institute) faculty trainer and workshop instructor. She presents regularly at local and international conferences and seminars.
