About Course
Ultrasound plays a crucial role in the evaluation and management of breast diseases, particularly with the rising incidence of breast cancer in an ageing population. In addition, lung ultrasound has become increasingly valuable in the rapid assessment of various thoracic conditions in clinical practice.
This workshop is introduced in response to industry demand and healthcare policy initiatives aimed at expanding workforce capabilities through skills upgrading. It is an intensive hands-on training programme designed to provide both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in breast and lung ultrasound.
Breast interventional procedures will be covered, with discussion on the role of ultrasound in comparison with other imaging modalities such as breast MRI and mammography. Advanced ultrasound techniques such as elastography will also be included.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to recognise normal and abnormal ultrasound findings of the breast and lung, and will be guided in the competent acquisition, interpretation, and assessment of these ultrasound images.
Topics include breast anatomy and physiology, clinical indications, equipment and patient preparation, scanning techniques and sonographic protocols, as well as normal and abnormal imaging findings. Lung ultrasound topics will include basic lung anatomy, scanning approaches, key artefacts, and common pathological findings.
Participants who attend this course will have to attend Small Parts Ultrasound l for completion of knowledge.
Who Should Attend
Prerequisites
- Participants are required to have a healthcare-related qualification. Prior clinical experience and knowledge of the general operation of the ultrasound machines may be given preferential consideration
- Participants who attend this course will have to attend Workshop: Small Parts Ultrasound l for completion of knowledge
Learning Outcomes
- Explain the basic principles and technical requirement of small parts ultrasound scan
- Understand the routine protocol for ultrasound imaging of the small parts such as breast, and lymph nodes ultrasound as well as other soft tissue masses
- Recognise and describe the normal and abnormal sonographic characteristics of the breast and soft tissue masses as well as other miscellaneous parts
- Recognise when modifications to routine scanning approaches are required and describe the limitations of ultrasound in regards to imaging the selected small parts system
