A Smart Notification System for hospital discharge and bed management is a digital solution that automates communication and coordination between hospital staff to optimise patient discharge and bed availability.

Research Problem and Motivation
  • Long turnaround time of hospital beds due to a lengthy discharge process
  • Manual sending of instant messages is required to inform housekeepers which beds have been discharged and require cleaning

Aim and Deliverables
  • Developed a Raspberry Pi-based RFID Smart Notification System for the hospital discharge process and bed management
  • Developed a mobile app with Telegram integration for nurses, housekeepers and the admission office to monitor status of beds, clean them and allocate beds efficiently
  • The system alerts doctors, nurses, and housekeeping staff when a patient is ready for discharge.

A flowchart titled "Discharge Process (After)" illustrating an optimized patient discharge workflow. The process features new steps including the assignment of discharge cards and the use of a digital app and Telegram to provide real-time updates for tracking discharges, bed cleaning, and status readiness.
