This project, in collaboration with DSO, aims to develop an AI-enabled Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)-based network system for establishing temporary wireless connectivity in unknown or infrastructure-less environments.

The focus is on designing and testing algorithms for intelligent drone placement and repositioning to maintain optimal communication links among users, using both simulations and real-world testing. The network leverages multiple drones to form a self-organising aerial mesh that adapts to user mobility and channel conditions.

Deliverables:
  • Algorithm for UAV network placement and repositioning.
  • Technical documentation detailing system design, implementation, and performance analysis.

A three-phase research roadmap for drone-assisted communication. Phase 1 involves AI algorithm development and simulation; Phase 2 focuses on hardware testing of drone placement between two clusters; and Phase 3 covers scalability and multi-hop connectivity testing.
