Explore the interconnection between environmental, economic, and social dimensions of sustainability and examine frameworks and policies that drive sustainable development worldwide.
This module aims to equip learners with a strong foundation in sustainability principles and practices, incorporating perspectives from both Singapore and the global landscape. By addressing challenges from both local and international contexts, this module prepares students to critically analyse sustainability challenges and implement strategies relevant to various sectors.
This module is part of the Graduate Certificate in Sustainability Principles and Practices (GCert in Sust PP) and supports the Chartered Engineer (SG) in Sustainability Sector Certification Programme by IES. It is mapped to IES CEng (Sustainability) Module – CM1: Introduction to Sustainability.
Who Should Attend
Learners who are seeking to enhance their expertise in environmental sustainability across diverse industry sectors, including sustainability officers, policymakers, managers, and business owners.
Prerequisites
- For learners who are not pursuing Engineering Sustainability Chartership:
- A Bachelor's degree from a recognised university
- For learners who are pursuing the Chartered Engineer (SG) in Sustainability Sector Certification Programme (CEng (Sustainability)) by IES:
- Washington Accord Degree or equivalent academic programme recognized by Professional Engineers Board (PEB)
- Minimum 4 years of working experience (in any field) as Engineer
- Learners should review the pre-requisites and register directly with IES Chartered Engineering Board for the CEng (Sustainability) certification. Certificate and Assessment
A Certificate of Attainment will be issued to participants who:
- Attend at least 75% of the module; and
- Undertake and pass credit bearing assessment (worth 3 credits) during the module, which can be stacked towards the Graduate Certificate in Sustainability Principles and Practices
Participants who meet the attendance requirement but do not pass the assessment will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Assessment Plan
Learners will have to complete a project assignment.
