Project management is a vital skill for many supervisory and managerial positions, not limited to professionals with the job title "Project Manager".

Organisations value project management because it ensures that team deliverables are aligned with the organisation’s strategic objectives. It ensures effective leadership across functions, along with clear communication and engagement with key stakeholders. Additionally, it promotes realistic planning, integrated risk and change management, and continuous monitoring and control.

This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques of project management. It is based on the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) developed by the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Topics covered include project management principles and the project life cycle, encompassing the five major process groups: initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. The course will delve into knowledge areas such as project integration, scope, schedule, cost, quality, and resource management. Additionally, it explores communications, procurement, risks, and stakeholder management.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to: 

  • Explain the five major process groups of the project life cycle—Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring & Controlling, and Closing—and apply them to real-world scenarios.
     
  • Develop a comprehensive project charter and project management plan, integrating multiple knowledge areas such as scope, schedule, cost, quality, resources, risk, procurement, communication, integration, and stakeholder management.
     
  • Create and maintain essential planning artefacts, including a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), detailed schedules using Critical Path Method, and cost estimates complemented with Earned Value Management techniques.
     
  • Apply quality management tools and methodologies, including Lean, Six Sigma, ISO standards, and various quality control techniques to ensure deliveries meet project objectives.
     
  • Manage project risks and stakeholder relationships effectively by conducting risk identification, qualitative and quantitative risk analysis, planning and implementing responses, as well as designing stakeholder engagement strategies.
     
  • Utilise project communication mechanisms, procurement planning and control, and integrated change control processes to maintain project alignment and stakeholder confidence.
     
  • Illustrate how to tailor traditional PMBOK-based and Agile methodologies to different organisational contexts, including hybrid approaches and their relevance in modern projects.
     
  • Exhibit leadership, team development, and resource management skills essential for effective project execution and successful project closure.
     
  • Utilise practical tools, templates, and case study insights to translate theory into actionable strategies for performance improvement in participants’ own projects.
