Course Overview
Effective from AY2025/26 Trimester 2 (January 2026), the Postgraduate Certificate in Civil Engineering will be transiting to Graduate Certificate in Civil Engineering. For more details, please refer to the full notice here.
This module will emphasise on design and construction of structural steel members, safety issues, member stability, plastic analysis and overall frame stability.
This module will also provide students with fundamental approaches in designing steel-concrete composite buildings in accordance with EC4. Students will acquire knowledge and skills to perform structural design for composite beams, slabs, columns and joints.

Prerequisites
- Candidates should possess a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
What You Will Learn
Stability and Plastic Analysis
- Perform stability analysis for compression members, plastic analysis for beams and frames, and buckling analysis for beams and beam-columns
Composite Structures
- Understand the fundamental design philosophies for steel-concrete composite structures
Steel Design
- Know and be aware of the requirements of modern design codes for structural steel
Composite Design
- Produce acceptable design for steel-concrete composite components under serviceability and ultimate limit states

Certificate and Assessment
A Certificate of Participation will be issued to participants who:
- Attend at least 75% of the module; and
- Undertake non-credit bearing assessment during the course
A Certificate of Attainment for each module will be issued to participants who:
- Attend at least 75% of the module; and
- Undertake and pass credit bearing assessment during the course
Fee Structure
The full fee for this course is S$3,606.88.
