Ultrasound plays a crucial role in the evaluation and management of patients presenting with chronic musculoskeletal injuries.

The course will provide you with the underpinning academic knowledge and clinical skills needed to undertake a range of musculoskeletal ultrasound examinations.

You will develop and enhance the theoretical knowledge and advanced image interpretation as well as specialist scanning skills in sonography of the shoulder and other musculoskeletal structures. Topics will include principles of musculoskeletal ultrasound, common indications, protocol and scanning techniques of the various upper and lower limb musculoskeletal structures. You will also develop an insight into the role of ultrasound and other supplementary imaging tests (X-rays and MRI) for the diagnosis of musculoskeletal disease.

Intensive hands-on practical sessions will be conducted to supplement the didactic teaching. It is ideal for practitioners who wish to expand their scope of practice in musculoskeletal sonography and can be taken as a single module for continuing professional development.

Who Should Attend

  • Radiographers practising ultrasound
  • Healthcare professionals involved in ultrasound work

"I had a good learning experience. The trainers were dedicated and generous to share their wealth of knowledge. Mr. Stephen Bird is a brilliant sonographer and was able to conduct his lessons hands-on in a very structured way. Awesome workshop!"
Teo Si Min
Radiographer, Singapore General Hospital

"This Musculoskeletal Sonography Workshop helped me a lot to improve my knowledge and scanning skills. it helped me to be more confident in doing musculoskeletal scans."
Ariane Espino
Sonographer, Medi-Rad

What You Will Learn

  • Understand the basic principles and technical requirements of musculoskeletal imaging
  • Discuss the normal and abnormal imaging characteristics of the musculoskeletal structures (soft tissues such as skin, muscles, tendon, ligaments, and nerves as well as bone)
  • Differentiate the sonographic appearance of normal structures from pathologic conditions
  • Acquire knowledge of musculoskeletal ultrasound including static and dynamic imaging, ultrasound-guided musculoskeletal intervention, and advanced imaging technique such as elastography
  • Understand the correlation between ultrasound and other imaging techniques such as x-rays and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
