Communication Helpdesk

Communication Helpdesk is the service arm of the Centre for Communication Skills (CCS) that provides free consultations to students on their written assignments or oral presentations. Consultations may include one-on-one or small-group tutoring.

Learning Outcome

To help students learn by supporting their development of communication skills as presenters and writers.

Scope of Helpdesk Consultation
  • Helpdesk consultations aim to assist students with purpose, structure, writing functions, and address specific audiences required of their assignments.
  • Helpdesk consultations are not for rewriting or proofreading of student papers/presentation slides.
  • Helpdesk consultants will not appraise comments and/or the grade on a marked paper, nor do they advocate on behalf of students.
  • Communication Helpdesk does not engage in clarifying questions about course content, or questions about citation format.

Location and Operating Hours

Venue
  • All appointments will take place at the designated discussion rooms on Level 3 of the Academic Plaza at SIT@Dover.
  • The confirmation email will indicate the tutor and appointment venue.
Operating Hours
  • Open on weekdays throughout the trimester, except during public holidays, examination period and trimester break.
  • Refer to the schedule in the booking system for available appointments.

All consultations will be held remotely via the consultation system/Zoom until further notice.

Booking an appointment
  1. All consultations are 45-minute-long, starting on the hour.
  2. Students are limited to a maximum of two appointments per week.
  3. Students are required to keep to the appointment time. A delay of 15 minutes or more may result in the appointment being forfeited.
  4. Appointments are non-transferable.
  5. Sending a proxy to attend the session on a student's behalf is NOT allowed.

 

Missed Appointments & Late Cancellations
  1. Cancellations are to be done 3 hours before the scheduled appointment in the booking system.
  2. For any last minute cancellation, please call the Helpdesk at 6592 2016 or email CCS@SingaporeTech.edu.sg.
  3. If you are more than 10 minutes late and have not given prior notice, your appointment will marked as missed.
  4. After 3 missed appointments, your booking privileges will be blocked. You will need to contact the Helpdesk to have it reinstated.
