Sustainable Campus

We aim to create a sustainable campus where responsible consumption and waste management become integral practices for staff and students. Through regular activities, we seek to embed sustainable principles not only on campus but also into the fabric of daily living. Our new Punggol Campus has also been constructed with sustainability in mind, featuring various energy and water efficiency features, while preserving an existing forest space.

Enhancing Infrastructure

SIT has enhanced its infrastructure to reduce electricity and water consumption. We are also tracking how resources are utilised and setting clear goals to minimise our carbon footprint.

All offices across the six existing SIT campuses have attained the Eco Office Certification awarded by the Singapore Environment Council.

We also maintain ambient indoor air temperature at a comfortable 25°C, and have implemented hybrid cooling by installing fans.

Working Towards Zero Waste

SIT aims to reduce our waste generation and work towards being a zero-waste campus.

We have deployed food waste bins to collect food waste that gets digested in a composter and used as fertiliser for campus greenery.

We have also deployed transparent segregated recycling bins to reduce contamination and increase the recycling rate of materials such as metal cans, plastic bottles, and paper.

Inculcating Sustainability as a Core Value

SIT’s core values support the University’s vision and mission. They underpin all our actions – from educating our students, to undertaking our research and shaping our policies and operations.

SIT’s new Punggol Campus situated by the waterfront preserves an existing forest along the Heritage Trail that forms a park in the campus. All buildings have been awarded the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark Platinum, reflecting SIT’s strong commitment to safeguarding the environment. Punggol Campus will also be home to two Super Low Energy (SLE) buildings.
