Lab Assistance Device (LAD)

Abstract

This project proposes a platform that uses Lab Assistance Device (LAD) to facilitate virtual laboratories for online teaching. These virtual laboratories sessions are referred to as laboratory sessions being conducted outside the physical laboratory where students can work independently on laboratory sessions with minimal support from instructors. It acts as virtual instructors to provide students with prompt feedback on their laboratory progress. In addition, it provides instructors more visibility on student progress by sending a snapshot of the solution to the instructors.

The platform prototype will be deployed for three Computing Science (CS) subjects in SIT-UoG CS join degree programme; Embedded Systems and Sensor Programming (CSC2003), Programming Methodology (CSC1003), and Computer Organisation and Architecture (CSC1004). Students will develop their solutions using the embedded system platform, i.e., MSP432, which will be connected to the proposed LAD by wired connections.

Students assessments (i.e., quizzes and project work) related to their understanding of the laboratory sessions will be conducted with the previous cohort to examine the effectiveness of the proposed platform.
