Online Portfolio Tools in the Development of Reflective Learning

Grant Name
SIT Advancement for Learning and Teaching (SALT)

Abstract

Learning portfolios are underutilised at SIT and one reason for this is the inadequacy of the embedded tool in LMS (xSiTe). The team proposes to utilise an established ePortfolio product to improve students’ engagement in reflective writing and promote personal development in two physiotherapy modules.

This project offers an opportunity to explore the use of an ePortfolio to develop skills in reflective practice from a foundation level, but with the intention of identifying a product that could be utilised in applied learning contexts throughout a student’s course and into their professional life. The project will be implemented in two modules – one in Year 1 and one in Year 2, and evaluate the students’ engagement with the ePortfolio product at its role in supporting a reflective learning approach across these two modules. If successful the use of the ePortfolio could be explored in a larger project across Clusters, to support applied learning strategies.
