Enhancing student learning and module development by implicit interaction technique

Grant Name
SIT Advancement for Learning and Teaching (SALT)

Abstract

This project aims to develop a new learning platform, integrated with Google Slides, which would enable the students to communicate selected topics anonymously to the instructors. Specifically, the instructor will upload the teaching materials (e.g. PowerPoint slides) to the Learning Management System. Using Google Slides, students can highlight and comment on the topics that they feel are difficult and need more explanation, doing so directly on the slides during the lectures in an anonymous way.

The comments provided by the students are categorised and displayed to the instructor simultaneously via a dashboard, which summarises and highlights all the comments accordingly. This will allow the instructors to respond to students’ requests instantly.

Potentially, this new platform will enhance students’ engagement in class to shorten their learning curves and improve their performance. The collected feedbacks can be used to facilitate instructors’ course preparation for future module development. This approach could be implemented and generalised to all programmes in the university.
