Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship To Encourage Upgrading (LKY-STEP) Award
The LKY-STEP Award was established from donations received from Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew through the sale proceeds of autographed editions of Volume 2 of his Memoirs. The objective of the award is to encourage lifelong learning. A maximum of five awards will be offered each year to outstanding polytechnic graduates pursuing full-time undergraduate degree programmes at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore Management University (SMU) or Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT).
Eligibility
- Open to Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
- Successful awardees should read a full-time undergraduate programme leading to a first degree
- Possess outstanding Local Polytechnic Diploma (preferably Diploma with Merit / Diploma with Distinction)
- Strong leadership qualities and potential
Award Benefits
LKY-STEP Award covers up to the normal programme duration on the condition that the scholar maintains a record of good academic performance and conduct satisfactory to the University.
- One-off cash award of S$3,500 that is revised annually
- Subsidised tuition fees will be fully covered by SIT if LKY-STEP Award holders are unsuccessful in securing a concurrent scholarship
- There is no bond attached to the award
Terms & Conditions
- LKY-STEP Award holders must commence his/her study in any full-time undergraduate programme at SIT in the same academic year of application.
- Holders of the award are allowed to hold concurrent scholarships offered by SIT (such as the University Engineering Scholarships) or other organisations.
- LKY-STEP Award holder is required to maintain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 out of 5 or 2.8 out of 4, depending on the university which he/she studied in. Academic performance will be reviewed every semester.
- The Award may be withdrawn at any time if, in the opinion of SIT, the scholar’s progress or behaviour is deemed unsatisfactory.
- If the recipient decides to terminate the scholarship prematurely, SIT reserves the right to impose a repayment on a case-by-case basis.
