SGNDT Level 2 for Ultrasonic Testing

SGNDT Level 2 for Ultrasonic Testing

This 60-hr course provides the training and education for the skillset in inspection practices using the non-destructive testing (NDT) method known as Ultrasonic Testing (UT). This is a test method that applies high-frequency mechanical waves, which is suitable for inspecting internal flaws and discontinuities in materials and structures. Training is delivered through a combination of seminars and practical laboratory sessions to learn the test method. This course fulfills the training requirements for the UT Level 2 for the SGNDT certification administered by the Non-Destructive Testing Society Singapore (NDTSS). The SGNDT certification is compliant with ISO 9712 and is recognised by the Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC).

Frequently Asked Questions

Will completing this course qualifies the participants for Level 2 SGNDT certification in the NDT method?

Upon completion of this course and passing the assessments, participants receive the Certificate of Attainment, which signifies completion of the training requirements for Level 2 SGNDT certification in the NDT method. Participants need to then possess a minimum of 3 months industrial experience practising the NDT method, and together with this Certificate of Attainment, are then qualified to undertake the examination for Level 2 SGNDT certification administered by the Non-Destructive Testing Society Singapore (NDTSS).

Course Instructors

Edmund Liew

Associate Professor, Singapore Institute of Technology

Edmund has around 15 years of teaching and research experience in the field of non-destructive testing (NDT). His early research interests were in guided wave ultrasound where he developed pattern recognition techniques to identify defects on metal beams. Subsequently, he worked for the aerospace industry to study NDT methods for the inspection of helicopter composite airframe structures, including phased array ultrasound, radiography, and thermography. He joined SIT in 2013 and continues to be active in the field of NDT, delivering education and training, as well as conducting applied research for industry projects.

Rajkumar S/O Abdul Rasheed Khan

Senior Professional Officer (NDT), Singapore Institute of Technology

Rajkumar has 10 years of prior industrial experience in the field of non-destructive testing (NDT), focussing on the aviation sector. The various NDT methods that he has practised include visual testing, penetrant testing, magnetic particle testing, eddy current testing, ultrasonic testing, and phased array ultrasonic testing. In 2015, he joined SIT and was instrumental in setting up the NDT, mechanical testing and composite manufacturing teaching facilities at the university. In addition, he trained with OEM to adopt other NDT methods including thermography, eddy current array, radiography, and acoustic emission. His objective is to train, mentor and equip undergraduates with practical knowledge for various NDT methods while sharing his industry experience. He continues to work closely with the industry from the oil and gas, marine, construction and aviation sectors, by delivering advice and NDT solutions through collaborative projects

Chew Han Guan

Technical Officer (NDT), Singapore Institute of Technology

Han Guan has nearly 9 years of working experience in the field of non-destructive testing (NDT). Before joining SIT in 2016, he has previously worked in aviation companies like ST Aerospace Engine and Singapore Aero Engine Services Private Limited (SAESL) to gain his NDT industrial experience. He is presently applying his NDT knowledge for various industry applications especially for aerospace and railway products. He is also well-versed in setting up NDT laboratories and conducting training for traditional and even advanced NDT methods, including for thermography, radiography and ultrasonic phased array. He had participated in various major NDT audits during his career and this has strengthened his core attributes in operating an NDT training facility
