Overview
Electrical systems are fundamental to modern society, supporting everything from homes and commercial buildings to industrial facilities and smart cities.
As the energy landscape continues to evolve, professionals must be equipped not only with technical expertise in design and simulation, but also with a strong understanding of regulatory compliance and ethical engineering practices.
The SIT Graduate Certificate in Electrical Engineering Professional Practices addresses these needs by providing learners with advanced knowledge in electrical system design, fault analysis, and protection strategies.
This programme focuses on application to engineering standards such as SS 638 and SS 555, along with the application of professional ethics in real-world scenarios. Learners will develop the capability to analyse and resolve complex engineering problems related to power system performance, lightning protection, and operational safety. Gain practical skills through hands-on projects, industry-standard tools, and case-based learning.
Each module is worth 6 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) credits and is taken concurrently as part of the Graduate Certificate in Electrical Engineering Professional Practices. This certificate can also serve as a pathway to the Master of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Modules Available
Each Graduate Certificate consists of three modules, which must be taken concurrently and completed within a single trimester.
Prerequisites
- A relevant bachelor’s degree from a recognised university
- At least one year of relevant working experience
Relevant degrees include but not limited to:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electrical Power Engineering degree awarded by Newcastle University (AY2013 to AY2016 intakes); or
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electrical Power Engineering degree jointly awarded by SIT and Newcastle University (AY2017 intakes onwards)
List of Modules
Code | Module | Credits |
---|---|---|
EEE6004 | Power Systems Fault Analysis and Protection | 6 |
EEE6210 | Practices in Electrical Installation | 6 |
EEE6212 | Integrated Project in Electrical Systems | 6 |
Note:
The above modules are subsidised by SkillsFuture Singapore.
Certificate and Assessment
A Certificate of Attainment for each module will be issued to candidates who
- Attend at least 75% of each module, and
- Undertake and pass credit-bearing assessment during the module
- Participants will be awarded a Graduate Certificate in Electrical Engineering Professional Practice if they complete all three modules (totalling 18 credits) with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0
- The GCert is stackable towards SIT’s Master of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (MSc EEE), and candidates who attain a CGPA of 2.5 or above may apply for transfer to the MSc EEE programme
Participants who meet the attendance requirement but do not pass the assessment will receive a Certificate of Participation.
