COMBAT Your Fitness!

SITizens kick and punch their way towards greater physical fitness at BodyCombat, a high energy martial arts workout organised by the SIT Alumni Sports Network

BodyCombat might sound intimidating at first, but it’s actually suitable for participants of all ages and fitness levels. On Saturday, 4 November 2021, SITizens gathered to try the boxing and martial arts-based workout on Zoom, led by Ms Jasmine Tan from JR Fitness.

While BodyCombat draws on martial arts moves, it is a non-contact workout which does not require a martial arts background to follow. Ms Tan guided the participants through dynamic moves which utilised every part of their body, such as punches, uppercuts and sidekicks. They were challenged to keep their energy up through an hour-long session while jamming to EDM music.

This was the first time trying BodyCombat for Mr Hariz Yet, a Computer Science and Game Design alumnus. He said, “Online classes help add variety to my usual daily exercise, and I thought this was a good chance to try something new. It was a great upper body exercise, I was quite sore the next day.”

Ms Daphne Chea, a Marine Engineering alumnus, liked that you could adjust the intensity of the workout according to your own comfort level. “Some movements were difficult, but the instructor provided easier options to fit different fitness levels,” she said. “It’s so much fun to be able to sweat it out rather than sit at home, especially during this pandemic.”
