Civil Engineering, MEngTech

Civil Engineering, MEngTech

Programme Overview

This 60 CR* credit postgraduate programme is designed to equip engineers with specialised technical and practical skills to help the industry address increasingly complex civil engineering problems in a creative and sustainable way.

In line with SIT’s applied learning pedagogy, this programme focusses on structural and geotechnical engineering applications in urban environment settings. This is an important step to further your career and become a Professional Engineer and leader in your field.

This programme is tailored to working professionals. Classes are conducted on weekday evenings.

*The credits will be as per the ECTS: European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System, a credit system designed to make it easier for students to move between different countries.

Programme Highlights

The programme specialises in Civil Engineering with emphasis on:

  • Structural and geotechnical engineering with five modules offered in each discipline;
  • Applied learning pedagogy striking a balance between theory and practice and bringing field experience into the classroom;
  • Exposure to structural stability and dynamics theory; design of concrete and precast strutures; design of steel and composite elements; design of tall buildings from the five modules in structural engineering;
  • Exposure to Singapore geology and rock mechanics; soil behaviour and site investigation; shallow and deep foundation; numerical modelling; excavation and tunnelling; land reclamation and ground improvement from the five modules in geotechnical engineering; and
  • Application and hands-on experience on numerical modelling using software such as STAAD Pro; ETABS; Revit; ABAQUS; SAFE; PLAXIS(2D&3D); SLOPE/W; and SEEP/W(2D & 3D).

The MEngTech in Civil Engineering programme will be seeking professional accreditation from the Engineering Accreditation Board. The first provisional accreditation exercise of the BEng and MEngTech is expected in the last quarter of 2019.

(S$537 per credit)

(S$145.50 per credit)

(S$291 per credit)

The above Postgraduate Programme Fees are for AY2019/20. They are not fixed throughout the student’s entire candidature and are subject to yearly review and revision.
The fees for International Students and Non-Subsidised fees are inclusive of 7% GST, with the exception of credit-rate fees (where GST is not indicated, but will be included in the fees billing).

The subsidised fees for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents shown are without GST, as GST on tuition fees will be subsidised by Ministry of Education.
MOE will only subsidise students who hold the relevant Bachelor qualifications that are accepted by the Professional Engineers Board together with the MEngTech for the purpose of registering as a Professional Engineer (PE). In addition, students must not have previously attained a masters or higher qualification through government subsidy or sponsorships.

Students are required to complete 60-ECTS-credits. These credits can come from either (i) 10 modules of coursework, or (ii) 8 modules of coursework plus a dissertation on an industrial research project. Only students with good academic standing are allowed to opt for the dissertation option. The modules currently offered are listed below.
