Programme Overview

The Master of Engineering Technology in Chemical Engineering is a 60-ECTS*-credit postgraduate programme to equip graduates and professionals with strong fundamentals and robust training in modern chemical engineering technologies. It is also suitable for mid-career professionals who wish to take advantage of current economic restructuring and industrial transformation to switch to chemical engineering careers.

This programme is tailored for working professionals. Classes are conducted on weekday evenings.

*ECTS: European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System, a credit system designed to make it easier for students to move between different countries.

Programme Highlights

The programme specialises in Chemical Engineering with emphasis on:

  • Modern controller design methods for the chemical and process industries;
  • Modelling and simulation strategies for process analysis and design;
  • Characteristics of various WTE technologies, design of WTE facilities with consideration of the regulatory and socioeconomic aspects;
  • Exposure to computational tools in process simulation and Life Cycle Analysis (LCA);
  • Reaction mechanisms and kinetics; interpretation of the kinetics simulation and proposal of reactor design;
  • Multi-disciplinary design and operation of advanced separation processes for the oil & gas and chemical industries through the analysis of fundamental theories of phase diffusion and flow dynamics;
  • Technical competency in applying the principles of classical and applied statistical thermodynamics to solve complex engineering and practical thermodynamic problems;
  • The ability to optimize and re-engineer the production systems at the workplace to enhance business profitability through the applications of fundamental and advanced chemical engineering principles;
  • Membrane applications in chemical, environmental and pharmaceutical industries;
  • A unified and comprehensive approach to the formulation, interpretation and solution of problems in fluids, mass transfer and heat transfer.

Accreditation

The MEngTech in Chemical Engineering (CE) programme will be seeking professional accreditation from the Engineering Accreditation Board. The first provisional accreditation exercise of the MEngTech (CE) with BEng (CE) is expected in 2019.

Eligibility

Applicants must possess the following:

  • Having the SIT-Newcastle University BEng in Chemical Engineering degree or equivalent qualifications; and
  • At least one year of relevant working experience (including internship experience).

1 The above Postgraduate Programme Fees are for AY2019/20. They are not fixed throughout the student’s entire candidature and are subject to yearly review and revision.
2 The fees for International Students and Non-Subsidised fees are inclusive of 7% GST, with the exception of credit-rate fees (where GST is not indicated, but will be included in the fees billing).
3 The subsidised fees for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents shown are without GST, as GST on tuition fees will be subsidised by Ministry of Education.
4 MOE will only subsidise students who hold the relevant Bachelor qualifications that are accepted by the Professional Engineers Board together with the MEngTech for the purpose of registering as a Professional Engineer (PE). Inaddition, students must not have previously attained a masters or higher qualification through government subsidy or sponsorships.
