There are many factors in ship design, and stability of the ship is one of the main factors that determine whether the ship will overturn or stay upright under the constant motion of water. The Large Angle Stability System is designed as a scaled-down model for the study of ship hydrostatics and stability. It allows students to study the righting moment of a general cargo ship, as well as the inclining stability of the ship, using a 1:70 scale model of a 28,000 tonnes general cargo ship.
This laboratory provides a safe environment for the design, build and integration of UAV platforms to experience aircraft vehicle behaviour.
The MJP Project 2500 Plus is capable of handling biocompatible printing material, engineering material, and elastomeric material. The printer can achieve a resolution of 800x900x790 DPI, 32 Micron layers. It runs on the 3D Sprint software, which prepares the printer for print.
Omron’s TM5-700 is a collaborative robot, also known as ‘cobot’, that enables humans to work together and interact, with the use of robotic arms. Students from the Mechatronics specialisation will be trained to programme the ‘cobot’ for process automation. Students will integrate various sensors and actuators with the ‘cobot’ to demonstrate a service robot, which dispenses products from a shelf, based on customers’ request.
Moving away from conventional hand sketching to digital sketching, students can use this software to create a 3D CAD model, assembly model, and 2D engineering drawing with minimum time needed. The SolidWorks software also exports different types of files for additive manufacturing, subtractive manufacturing, or AR, VR or MR application.
The F370 Stratasys FDM printer has a controlled heated chamber for better print quality. The printer provides seven model materials and two soluble support materials. It runs on the GrabCAD software, which prepares the printer for print.
The Artec Spider handheld scanner provides a one-stop solution in reverse engineering for small mechanical products which require tolerance. The equipment scans and produces a mesh file, which is then converted to a workable CAD file.
Virtual Environment for Radiotherapy Training (VERT) Lab is an engaging, highly visual and realistic tool for training radiation therapy professionals. It is a learning space that enables learners to establish knowledge, along with a range of clinical skills and competency in radiotherapy, through the use of virtual environment. VERT includes life-size simulation of a radiotherapy treatment room and equipment.
The lab also houses Diagnostic Ultrasound Systems. Ultrasound imaging or Sonography is a non-ionising medical investigation that uses sound waves to capture real-time images of the body to aid in evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of medical conditions.
Incorporating a Virtual Environment and Diagnostic Ultrasound, with supervision by trained personnel in undergraduate allied health education, is optimal for the enhancement of clinical education and training in radiation therapy and diagnostic radiography for students.
RISPACS Lab houses a Radiology Information System (RIS), which is a networked software system for managing medical imagery and associated data. RIS is used in conjunction with Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) to manage image archives.
PACS is a medical imaging technology which provides economical storage of — as well as convenient access to — images from multiple modalities, such as general X-rays, CT, and MRI. Electronic images and reports are transmitted digitally via PACS, and displayed on BARCO medical monitors for diagnosis of diseases and pathology.
RIS is a computerised database used by radiology departments to store, manipulate, and distribute patient radiological data and imagery.
The Top Table Restaurant is divided into a kitchen and a dining room. The kitchen encompasses all stations necessary to prepare an in-depth menu, focused on contemporary and formal cuisines. The dining room transforms from a contemporary setting to a formal venue, where you will learn detailed service techniques. All of the skills that you have learned from your previous classes, including business management, leadership, innovation, menu engineering, wines, preparation of mocktails and cocktails, will be put into practice in these two venues.

Additive Engineering (AE) is a disruptive technology that is fundamentally distinct from conventional manufacturing technologies. AE spans the complete product life cycle, from concept-stage design to service-part fulfilment. This module provides a holistic understanding of the concept and fundamentals of AE. It covers the principles, methodology and usage of various Additive Manufacturing systems, along with the understanding of pre- and post-processing of AE products. Commercial software for AE simulation and design optimisation. Students will also carry out a hands-on design and manufacturing project.
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is a wide group of analysis techniques used in the science and technology industry. NDT involves a variety of non-invasive inspection techniques used to evaluate material properties, components, or entire process systems without deleterious impact. The techniques can also be utilised to detect, characterise, or measure the presence of damage mechanisms like corrosion or cracks. The NDT Centre in SIT provides a platform for teaching various NDT techniques, transacting industry-related inspections, development, and applied research. The NDT facility is accredited by Singapore’s certification body (SAC) as an Approved Training Centre (ATC) in accordance with ISO 9712:2012.
Students will integrate their CAD design and development of the Hologram application whilst being proficient in the deployment and full functionalities of their intended CAD design on the Microsoft HoloLens device.

Infrared Radiation (IR), or infrared light, is a type of radiant energy (non-ionising) that's invisible to human eyes, but can be felt as heat. All objects in the universe emit some level of IR radiation, but two of the most obvious sources are the sun and fire. IR cameras have been deployed at many places for temperature checks, particularly for border control purposes.
The shorter ‘Near-Infrared’ waves, which are closer to visible light on the electromagnetic spectrum do not emit any detectable heat. For instance, they are discharged from a TV remote control to change the TV channels. The longer ‘Far-Infrared’ waves, which are closer to the microwave section on the electromagnetic spectrum, can be felt as intense heat.
X-rays are a type of high-energy ionising radiation, called electromagnetic waves. X-ray imaging creates pictures of the inside of your body in shades of black and white. This is because different tissues absorb varying amounts of radiation. The calcium in bones absorbs the most X-rays, so bones will appear white in the images. Fats and other soft tissues absorb less and appear grey. Air absorbs the least, so lungs will appear black. When you have an X-ray, you may wear a lead apron to protect certain parts of your body. The amount of radiation you get from an X-ray is very small.
Industrial X-rays use large amounts of radiation to inspect materials and components, with the objective of locating and quantifying defects and degradation in material properties that would lead to the failure of engineering structures. Conventional radiography uses a radiation source, which produces the X-rays, which will then be captured behind the material by an X-ray sensitive film.
Industrial Radiography uses either X-rays produced with X-ray generators or gamma rays generated by the natural radioactivity of sealed radionuclide sources. Photons are captured by a detector, such as a film, flat panel detector or digital detector. The examination can be performed in static 2D (named Radiography), in real time 2D, (Fluoroscopy) or in 3D after image reconstruction (Computer Tomography or CT). It is also possible to perform tomography nearly in real time (4-Dimensional Computed Tomography or 4DCT). Particular techniques such as X-ray Fluorescence (XRF), X-ray Diffractometry (XRD), and several other ones complete the range of tools that can be used in Industrial Radiography.
Chromatography is the major technique used for large-scale downstream separation and purification of proteins produced in cell culture. The Fast Protein Liquid Chromatography system enables column packing and preparative chromatography at pilot-scale.
Single-use, or disposable, bioprocessing systems are increasingly being adopted in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. Single-use bioreactors offer a range of advantages, like flexibility, lower energy consumption, shorter turn-around time, and reduced risk of cross-contamination.
The VR Simulation Lab provides students with a unique and realistic experience of aircraft operation. The immersive VR environment visualises the theory and concepts of flight physics, which are taught across various modules in the aerospace programme. Students design their own flight test experiments of a general aviation aircraft to characterise the aircraft performance parameters, just like real test pilots do.
A multifunction robot for food preparation that can be used to cut, mix, emulsify, knead, homogenise, vacuum cook, and cool food in batches of eight to 40 litres. It is commonly used in confectioneries, bakeries, as well as in the production of ready meals, dairy, and sauces like jam, gelato bases, hazelnut chocolate paste, laksa sauce, baby food, meat sauce, and cheese.
This equipment is used by students for final-year projects.
The main function of the continuous ice cream freezer is to freeze (to -50C) the intermediate product mix to produce frozen dairy and non-dairy desserts. The capacity of this unit ranges from 10 to 50 litres per hour. The intermediate product mix, after going through pasteurisation and an ageing process, will be churned by the equipment to become an ice cream product that is widely available in the supermarkets.
This equipment is used by students for their Year 2 modules and final-year projects.
Tangential flow filtration is a filtration technology that is used in downstream processing as an efficient and cost-effective means of bioseparation. Its applications include concentrating sample solutions, fractionating molecules, harvesting cells, and clarifying fermentation broths.
The UHT (Ultra-High Temperature) system is a heat treatment process that kill spores in beverages, thus extending the shelf life of the food product. It is used to process liquid food products, and offer shelf stability. It can also be used for pasteurisation and extending the shelf life of products.
This equipment is used by students for their Year 2 modules and final-year projects.
A freeze dryer is an equipment that is used to remove water from a product by sublimation and desorption. In the absence of heat exposure, the product goes through a gentle dehydration process, resulting in higher quality products, compared with products dehydrated using other techniques. Freeze drying is commonly used for dehydration of products with high nutritional value and sensitive to heat treatment. Examples of such food products are freeze-dried fruits, vegetables, and coffee.
This equipment is used by students for final-year projects.
The instrumentation cluster evaluation board emulates the use of a microcontroller, stepper motor, and LCD to display vehicle information in the dashboard of a vehicle. Students will learn how to convert external analogue voltages into digital levels for the microcontroller, display information onto LCD, and understand how the I2C communication protocol works.
The simulation software is used to illustrate Transportation Management System, Traffic Signal, and Toll System, taught in the Computing Engineering programme. Students will be able to create traffic simulation models, similar to real road scenarios. They will be involved in the traffic and transportation planning, and be able to modify/add the transportation infrastructure, adjust traffic light timing system, and create and control every conceivable environmental effect, such as rain, snow, wind, shadows, and lighting. To enhance the experience, students get to test drive the final plan on a virtual road.
The 4-channel 100MHz oscilloscope is a common equipment in our embedded systems laboratory, which enables students to measure both analogue and digital signals. It is also an important equipment for debugging problems in an embedded system.
Our 200-sqm UAV Flight Test Lab provides students with the opportunity to flight test production UAVs, such as the DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise and the custom UAV system, developed in our UAV Design Lab. Through flight experiments, students will understand the vehicle operation and can relate to various modules across the aerospace programme, such as Aerospace Control, Propulsion, and Flight Systems.
This trainer is used for various FCB programmes in modules related to Unit Operations. It is used to teach the concept of heat exchanger, which is a common equipment used in various industries. This trainer incorporates four different heat exchangers, namely shell and tube, plate, tubular, and stirred tank with heated jacket. Heat exchangers are used for heating, cooling, evaporation, or condensation of media at different temperatures.
The state-of-the-art Optitrack system, installed in our UAV Flight Test Lab, allows for low latency, precision indoor tracking of ground and aerial vehicles. Students use the precise indoor position and orientation data for their lab experiments and capstone projects to integrate control systems and AI-enabled decision making to their UAV systems.
This trainer is used for various FCB programmes in modules related to Unit Operations. It is used to teach the concept of absorption, which is a common process in many industries. Absorption is used to remove one or more gaseous components from a gas flow using a solvent.
The UAV Design Lab provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and understanding of various UAV components. Students will assemble their own UAV system and explore innovative UAV design features. Using their own UAV system, students will also learn about sensor integration in unmanned systems, that is used to enable autonomous operation.
This trainer is used for various FCB programmes in modules related to Unit Operations. It is to teach the concept of heat transfer in a fluidised bed. Fluidised beds are used in a broad range of applications, such as industrial drying, fluidised bed combustion, or heat treatment of materials. Bulk solids are transformed from a fixed bed into a fluidised bed, where fluids pass through them. In terms of fluid mechanical and thermodynamic properties, the fluidised bed behaves like an incompressible fluid.
A dissolution apparatus is commonly used for the dissolution test. It is used for SIT Pharmaceutical Engineering’s Downstream Processing Module II. This apparatus is a modular system designed for manual or automated dissolution testing. The instrument can be configured for use with baskets, paddles, paddle-over-disk assemblies, and rotating cylinders, accommodating vessel sizes from 100 mL to 2 L. The instrument is designed to meet or exceed the pharmacopeial requirements of regulatory bodies around the world.
Bioreactors are engineered systems that support a biologically active environment. They are used in upstream biopharmaceutical manufacturing to culture cells for the generation of protein products.
Benchtop bioreactor platforms offer manageable complexity, size, and scale for gaining process understanding. They are indispensable for research, process development, and troubleshooting larger processes.
Stainless steel bioreactor systems remain the workhorses for large-scale upstream bioprocessing. The 50 litre pilot-scale stainless steel bioreactor system is equipped with steam-in-place and clean-in-place capabilities for sterilisation and cleaning processes.

This laboratory supports practical sessions, which are designed for students to learn and understand the theoretical design and operational know-how of the unit operations in the chemical industries. The laboratory equipment simulates part of the production process, which ranges from chemical synthesis to downstream purification and isolation of APIs or intermediates. The downstream units include crystallisation, filtration and drying.
This laboratory allow students to explore the entire life cycle of commercial UAVs, from virtual design to prototyping and flight testing, with the integration of the VR flight simulation facility and UAV design/Flighting laboratory.
Occupational therapy students are taught how to enable patients to perform activities of daily living in a home or community environment. At SIT, there is a simulated flat and kitchen, where students can get hands-on practice in these areas.
This laboratory is primarily used to teach biomechanics and movement analysis. With the vision motion capture system in place, students will be able to analyse gait and other movements, as part of their learning and research.
This laboratory holds various human anatomical models for students’ study and revision on human anatomy.
This laboratory is designed to simulate the environment of a hospital or community hospital ward. It is equipped with common hospital equipment, such as hospital beds, medical screens, and blood pressure monitoring devices. This laboratory also houses Sims Man, a state-of-the-art mannequin which is able to simulate patients in a hospital.
Students are taught the use of various exercise equipment, such as the cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) machine, treadmills, stationary exercise bicycles, and various gym equipment, for exercise physiology and rehabilitation exercises. This laboratory also functions as a student research facility.
This laboratory has a functional kitchen, which is used for food preparation as part of programme modules and students’ final-year project.
New Virtual Reality (VR) radiography system.
The laboratory facilitates clinical teaching sessions conducted by students on their peers, and for them to practise health and physical assessment in pairs.
Solar Panel work is done by allowing photons to knock electrons free from atoms to generate a flow of electricity.
The Modular Production System is used for training in planning, assembling, programming, commissioning, operating and troubleshooting of production systems.
Each module is equipped with modular mechatronics configurations to complete certain production process, as well as a Siemens PLC1500 module to control and automate the process.
The Robot Assembly Station is used for mounting workpieces using a 6-axis industrial robot. The robot places the printed circuit boards into the housing and inserts fuses. A camera is in place to make sure the work pieces are oriented correctly.
Two parallel conveyors then move in opposite directions. The working position for the assembly robot is located on a third belt to avoid congestions in the material flow, especially during lengthy assembly processes.
The AI Quality Control Robot uses computer vision techniques for image processing, as well as an artificial neural network-based memory chip to recognise patterns (and defects) that deviate from trained references in microseconds.
SIT Mini-Security Operation Centre (SIT-SOC) with operation in Security Incident Event Management (SIEM) allows students to learn about real-time data correlation and analytics data tools, such as Microfocus Arcsight and RSA Netwitness.
DOBOT Magician is a multifunctional desktop robotic arm for practical training purposes. Installed with different end-tools, DOBOT Magician can realise interesting functions, such as 3D printing, laser engraving, writing, and drawing. It supports secondary development by 13 extensible interfaces and over 20 programming languages.
The Fischertechnik factory simulation training models are delivered ready-made and can be operated either at a 9V standard voltage or a 24V based on the industrial standard. The focus is on the simulation, demonstration and comprehensible presentation of digital networked applications in a real production environment.
Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) are essential to the industrial automation industry — Allowing the control and monitoring of industrial operations in a sustainable, flexible, and efficient way. Ethernet connectivity, built-in cybersecurity, and processing power are needed to handle Big Data Analysis, and to protect against new vulnerabilities among connected industrial assets, across devices or into the cloud.
Experiment set-up for 3-phase Induction Motor Variable Frequency Converter Drive System.
The Induction Motor Drive experiment set-up is used to perform a no-load test and locked rotor test to identify the equivalent circuit parameters of the 3-phase induction machine. The students learn about the working principle and optimised operation condition of the 3-phase Induction Motor from the measured speed, versus torque/current/efficiency/power factor characteristic curves in different operation frequency and loading conditions.
SDN Switch is used primarily during laboratory sessions.
The iDrilling module drills four drilling holes into the lower part of the housing of the workpiece – two on the left and two on the right of the front cover.

Our cooking suites are equipped with both induction and electric stoves, as well as combination ovens for you to work with.
The Electro-Pneumatic Training System uses Siemens PLC 1200 to control a variety of pneumatic industrial applications.
With this equipment, students will understand the construction and function of air cylinders, pumps, actuation methods, pressure measurement, flow control, logic operations, limit switch operations and time delay valve operations. Students will also be able to undertake the electronic training which will include functions, such as stepper control, sensor evaluation and programming, as well as structure and sequence control.

The control panels of this test set-up are used to control the frequency, voltage, and mechanical load of the 3-phase induction motor.
The Solar Power Emulation System test set-up is used to teach students about the working principle of solar power generation. The nature of sunlight is emulated with adjustable brightness of a light source with variations in incidence-angle and azimuth-angle. Students can measure the solar panel I-V and P-V characteristic curves to understand the maximum power tracking working principle of solar PV control system. From the experimental measurement results, students can learn about the practical issue of solar power performance degradation, due to partial shading effect.
In our Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory, the Siemens PLC 1500 modules are integrated with the Modular Production System and the Industry 4.0 Learning Factory to provide students with a seamless learning experience from the intermediate to advanced level of PLC programming and industrial automation control.

The Living Lab at SIT@NYP will support the development of our future Punggol Smart Campus to ensure that the solutions are effective, secure, flexible, sustainable, and future-proof.
All of your foundational classes take place in this large kitchen with five double-sided islands for you to practise all of the skills needed to become an expert in cooking. The space is large enough to accommodate two classes with two faculty members teaching 21 students each. The skills kitchen serves as a multi-purpose venue, where you will practise a variety of skills --- from knife cuts and full animal butchery to producing meals for our loyal customers.
The Advanced Manufacturing Laboratory is equipped with both traditional mechanical engineering experiments and state-of-the-art facilities to provide students with training on mechanical design principles, as well as smart manufacturing technologies.

Everyone who dines at the Foodgle Food Court and iEat cafeteria at SIT@Dover can do their part in being sustainable by separating their food waste at designated food waste separation points.
The dry and solid food waste, separated and collected, will undergo a composting process in the composter located at the back of Foodgle Food Court.
The end-product (organic fertiliser) from the composter will then be used for landscaping and planting purposes in our campus.
These assistive devices, such as plate guard, non-slip mat, and spoon with build-up handle, can assist people with disabilities in self-feeding.

The Fermentation and Bioseparation Lab specialises in upstream mammalian cell culture and downstream purification of biomolecules. It supports the core laboratory modules for the Pharmaceutical Engineering programme – Cell Culture Lab and Bioseparation Lab. With the wide range of capabilities from bench to pilot scale, the laboratory fosters faculty and student research projects, including external industrial collaborations.
The food pilot plant houses common pilot scale processing equipment used in food manufacturing, as well as other equipment required for food product development. This laboratory is used for the teaching of food engineering theory and offers students an opportunity to operate common pilot scale processing equipment. Besides food engineering practical sessions, students also utilise the equipment in the food pilot plant extensively during their final-year food technology project and food product development project.

The laboratory is used to teach electronics and embedded systems design.
This laboratory is designed for transport systems simulation and car simulator.
This laboratory supports practical sessions, which are designed for students to learn and understand the theoretical design and operational know-how of the unit operations in the chemical industries. The laboratory equipment simulates part of the production process, which ranges from chemical synthesis to downstream purification and isolation of APIs or intermediates. The downstream units include crystallisation, filtration and drying.
The Top Table Restaurant is where the final hands-on classes for the CIA take place. This full-service restaurant comprises a teaching kitchen, dining room and bar. As a student, you will run two different dining concepts under the watchful eye and guidance of your instructors and teaching assistants. Top Table@CIA is where the modules for Contemporary Restaurant and Service, as well as Formal Restaurant and Service, take place for the culinarians. For the baking and pastry students, you will move from taking the module on Café Operations and Beverage, as well as Customer Service, in the full-service bakery café to learn the nuances of being part of a formal restaurant brigade through modules in Restaurant Operations and Restaurant Desserts.
The Top Table Restaurant is divided into a kitchen and a dining room. The kitchen encompasses all stations necessary to prepare an in-depth menu, focused on contemporary and formal cuisines. The dining room transforms from a contemporary setting to a formal venue, where you will learn detailed service techniques. All of the skills that you have learned from your previous classes, including business management, leadership, innovation, menu engineering, wines, preparation of mocktails and cocktails, will be put into practice in these two venues.
The Sugarloaf Café@CIA is a bustling café featuring bakery items, as well as delicious soups, salads, sandwiches, homemade ice creams, and great drinks.
