CTIL Development Programme: Advanced Manufacturing and Assembly for Complex Steel Structures, Shenzhen & Chongqing, China (12–18 April 2026)

CTIL, with support from the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore, is organising a seven-day study trip to Shenzhen and Chongqing, China, from 12 to 18 April 2026. The executive-level programme focuses on advanced manufacturing and assembly of complex steel structures and is led by Er. Clement Tseng, Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Building Control), BCA; Er. Prof. Chiew Sing-Ping, Head of CTIL, SIT; and Er. Ng Choon-Yeang, Group Director (Cross Island Line), LTA. Together, they provide strong institutional leadership spanning academia, government agencies, and the built environment industry.

Through high-level technical presentations, dialogue sessions with local Chinese municipal housing and construction authorities, and structured visits to iconic steel projects under construction, participants will experience first-hand industrialised steel production, automated fabrication lines, digital twin integration, smart construction systems, and AI-enabled quality assurance and monitoring technologies.

Designed for decision-makers, industry leaders, and stakeholders, the expedition also offers strategic insights into Chinese governance frameworks, industrial ecosystems, and translational research models shaping next-generation steel construction. Through curated exchanges with research institutes, major contractors, and public agencies, participants will deepen their understanding of how advanced manufacturing, digitalisation, and standardisation are transforming the delivery of complex steel infrastructure in Shenzhen and Chongqing, two of China’s most developed cities, in this new AI-enabled era.

This programme is part of CTIL’s mission to accelerate knowledge transfer and industry transformation, supporting Singapore’s built environment sector in advancing towards higher productivity, sustainability, digitalisation, and resilience in construction.
