Designing a recycling receptacle to promote green living

Design A Recycling Receptacle to Promote Recycling

As part of their efforts to promote correct recycling practices and encourage higher recycling rates among Singaporeans, the National Environment Agency (NEA) invited SIT students to contribute proposed designs for a recycling receptacle for households in Singapore.

This project is a collaboration with the Public Waste Collectors (PWCs). In addition to being compact, foldable, and attractive, the proposed receptacle must be sufficiently spacious to accommodate bottles, egg cartons, and small boxes. The receptacle must also be expandable, sturdy, waterproof, and washable.

Should a design by SIT students be accepted, it will be shared with the Public Waste Collectors (PWCs) for mass production and distribution to all households in Singapore.

This project is timely as it serves our national sustainability initiative and coincides with SIT’s shift to our new Punggol campus. Do look out for the recycling receptacle created by our students at the Punggol Digital District.
