The Multi-Ministry Taskforce announced on 3 April 2020 that Singapore will implement elevated safe distancing measures as a circuit breaker in view of the increasing number of local transmissions of COVID-19. All Institutes of Higher Learning will also be moving to full home-based learning during this period.

In line with this, the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) will close all its six campuses from 8 April till 4 May 2020.

During this time, no classes or labs will be conducted in SIT. All lessons will shift to full home-based learning, and students are not permitted to return to campus. To ensure the continuity of its operations, all SIT staff and faculty will telecommute from home.

All physical proctored examinations for SIT degree programmes and SIT joint degree programmes with Overseas University (OU) partners will be converted to online examinations. To allow students more time for preparation, the Academic Year 2019/2020 Trimester 2 examinations have been postponed by three weeks to commence on 27 April 2020. Students enrolled in SIT and joint degree programmes are given the option to convert Letter-graded modules to Pass/Fail modules for the current trimester.

Where required, SIT will make alternative arrangements to ensure that learning outcomes and students’ graduation will not be adversely affected by this disruption. SIT is also looking at ways to help students who face difficulties doing their examinations online. While SIT will be sympathetic to students who genuinely encounter technical difficulties during the online examinations, the university will not hesitate to impose severe sanctions should they violate the SIT honour code.
