“I stand in awe”

If I have to use a phrase to describe my experience at the Special Parliamentary Session (SPS) for the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, it would be “I stand in awe”.

The Preparation

The level of dedication that went into the slightest detail at SPS was remarkable! Everyone gave his/her all to make sure nothing went wrong. This goes to show the amount of respect we all have for a man who was one-of-his-kind; irreplaceable.

The Journey to the Special Parliamentary Session

The walk from the bus drop-off to Parliament House provided a sight that would forever be engraved in my mind. A picture is truly worth a thousand words. The willingness of the thousands, young and old, to queue for hours goes to show the commitment of a nation.

In this uniquely Singaporean weather, even though people were tired and dehydrated, not a single one gave up.

Every step I took, I made sure to soak up every moment.

The Special Parliamentary Session

The eulogies which were delivered at Parliament House were truly heartfelt and thought-provoking. They helped to paint a picture of how our phenomenal leader had led with tenacity and conviction, and made Singapore a better place. To others, he was more than a leader; he was both mentor and friend.

In order to bring about success, a good foundation has to be put in place. I very much believe that the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew had not just laid a perfect foundation but even brought Singapore to where it is today.

Our job now is to not only appreciate what we have but to continue where he had left off.
