GIC Sparks & Smiles Study Grant

The GIC Sparks & Smiles is a special programme for undergraduates who believe they can make a positive impact in someone’s life. It is a Study Grant established to support full-time undergraduates of SIT who will participate in a leadership and community programme.  Recipients will mentor disadvantaged children and youths as part of this programme. 

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Students enrolled in SIT-conferred full-time undergraduate degree programmes.

  • Singapore Citizens.

  • Household Per Capita Income (PCI) less than or equal to S$2,475.

  • Communicate the desire and enthusiasm to be a mentor during the interview process 

Tenure and Benefits of the Bursary:

  • Each Grant is valued at S$6,000 and is tenable for one Academic Year.

  • The Grant will be used to fund the recipient’s tuition fees, course materials and other education-related expenses. 

  • Recipient of this Grant may hold another Bursary concurrently to fund other educational expenses such as but not limited to OIP, etcetera. 

  • Recipients will undergo a customised leadership and community programme that will include useful management skills and mentoring know-how. He/She will than gain first-hand experience as a mentor and friend to underprivileged children or youths. 

  • Recipients shall serve as a mentor to underprivileged Singaporean children/youths for not less than 25 hours within an Academic Year (the “Mentoring Hours”) at appointed NGOs selected by the GIC. 

    • These 25 Mentoring Hours do not include the selection process that applicants must go through, nor the 6-hour training that selected recipients must undergo.

    • These 25 Mentoring Hours shall be in addition to community service hours that the recipient may be required to perform as part of his or her curriculum at SIT.

  • 50% of the Grant quantum will be disbursed upfront upon awarding the bursary. Disbursement of the balance 50% of the Grant at the end of the second/ third semester is subject to the submission of the reports and the receipt of a satisfactory appraisal by the assigned NGO for the Recipient.

  • No bond is required of the recipient.

  • Each recipient may be awarded the Grant for a maximum of two times (i.e. maximum of S$12,000) throughout the duration of his or her candidature.

How To Apply

Applications for Public Bursaries, Donated Bursaries & Scholarships will commence in July 2022. Do keep a look out for more information which will be sent to your SIT e-mail address.

Matriculated students are to submit their Financial Aid application via the SIT Student Intranet - IN4SIT. Do note that students are to connect to the SIT VPN before accessing IN4SIT. 

Applicants will need to complete and submit the online application form and upload all required supporting documents through the application portal by the given deadline.
