Associate Professor Ivan B.H. LEE is the Vice President, Industry and Community Group in the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). In this capacity, he provides strategic leadership to the building of a close nexus between SIT, students, industry partners and the community that is critical to SIT’s success. He oversees the development of strategies to promote industry collaboration and community partnership and actively engages companies, trade associations, government agencies and various interest groups to advance SIT’s mission and vision.
Associate Professor Lee joined SIT in 2013, and has taught manufacturing operations, engineering design and entrepreneurship courses across a variety of degree programmes. He has been instrumental in conceptualizing and spear-heading the setting up of the Enterprise & Innovation Hub in SIT to promote and enable collaboration, innovation and entrepreneurial activities between the industry, academic staff and students. He has also been a key driver in conceptualizing and establishing the Professional Officers Division within the Academic Group to enable more efficient, centralized management of laboratories.
Prior to joining SIT, Associate Professor Lee has over 27 years of experience in high-tech manufacturing, R&D, management and consulting in such areas as tooling engineering, process planning, plastic injection molding, metal
fabrication, product lifecycle management, business process improvement, operations management, productivity improvement, enterprise systems and cloud-based applications. He has deep knowledge of best practices in the
precision engineering, printing, general manufacturing and IT industries, with significant experience in developing business strategies, enterprise IT systems and startup companies.
Associate Professor Lee has also founded two start-up companies, BLC Solutions Pte Ltd in 2004 and TrueZ Pte Ltd in 2013. BLC Solutions is a spin-off company from the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), established to commercialize the Web-based Product Lifecycle Management technology developed by his team at SIMTech, while TrueZ Pte Ltd develops and commercializes cloud-based technologies and SaaS applications for B2B collaboration and e-sourcing.
Associate Professor Lee graduated with a silver medal award from the Singapore Polytechnic in 1981 and a Bachelor of Engineering degree (First Class honours) conferred by the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1985. He
was the first among the 1985 batch of Mechanical and Production Engineering (MPE) graduates from the Nanyang Technological Institute (NTI), now known as the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), to have earned a PhD degree from NUS in 1993 with his research on intelligent process planning using expert systems.
